What routine maintenance items should I be aware of?

Hey guys, I've recently just got a pre-owned 2015 F80 from my uncle who gave it to me at a safe price. As I had no intentions to get a car like this as my first vehicle, all I can say I am truly grateful to have the chance to ride this beauty.

Just wanted to know what are common routine maintenance I should be on point with? I really want to be servicing my vehicle before service dates.

Oil Changes and Spark Plugs every 3rd Oil Change.

Keep an eye on coolant levels, possible of charge cooler leak.

Rear tires probably once a year because you're just gonna mash the gas because the car has so much torque and so fun to drive.

Other than that, the car is basically like a Toyota Camry. There isn't anything really "special" to do.

I have to second, they really are pretty low maintenance. Oil change, spark plugs, air filter, and give it a bath regularly. They're pretty easy keepers. I would recommend replacing the cabin air filter as well, but otherwise enjoy the car!

Not mentioned so far are brakes and rotors. Depending how you drive. I got 25k out of mine before I had to replace them.

Yup, that's what i'm worried how soon it'll need to be replaced. The torque on this vehicle feels like as if it wear and tears asap LOL

Keep in mind a low maintenance vehicle vs performing good routine maintenance practices are two totally different things. The F8x M3/M4 has proven to be a pretty reliable car overall (as others have mentioned above) and the basic routine maintenance required by the manufacturer, even if you do it yourself, is not that bad either. However, if you search, you will find some good routine maintenance practices (applicable to any vehicle for that matter) that will help to improve the overall longevity of the vehicle, especially if you intend to keep it for the long haul.

For example, things like routine transmission fluid, differential fluid, engine coolant, charge air coolant, and brake fluid changes/flushes are good things to do - but are not necessarily part of the maintenance routine put out by the manufacturer. Anything that BMW calls a "lifetime" fluid should be changed/flushed at some interval as a basic example of good routine maintenance practices.

"Lifetime fluid" just means it lasts as long as the transmission or whatever can last until. If it lasts only 70K miles, 70k miles was the "life" of.

hi guys, i have 7,000 miles on my car now, it's a 2018 m4.. the car keeps on saying oil change in 6000k or 11/2019? Should I change in 11/2019, this is a car that's often used in the weekend or decent weather only.. any harm waiting for changing the oil afterwards?

Go by time if you don't drive often. Change it next month, it should be free at the dealership. Also, if you don't change it, then your car will keep bugging you to change it at start up.

I'm the second owner and I purchased the car from a non bmw dealer. Under 5100 miles. I don't think I will get a free oil change or any service that given to cars? I'm not aware of this as this is my 1st bmw purchase. I guessing my first oil change would be around $130 or so at the preferred dealership.

Can you renew the maintenance with BMW if you don't buy it from a BMW dealer but the car is otherwise under warranty clean title etc?

I bought my 2015 used with 15k but still under warranty etc. I bought it from a Bmw dealer and was able to pay a fee to resume the free factory maintenance that the original owner was due. The fee was set by bmw so I don't think it's a secret or anything

A recent update, I took the car to a known dealership yesterday, mileage on the car was 7,348 miles . Dealership service attendant told e the car was is great maintenance record from prior owner, 1200 miles first service, replace oil & filter, driver side bulb and left front bushing. After I've put on 2,300 miles of ownership and the pop up came up service due 11/2019 or 6000 miles. So I booked and appointment and I was surprised they did the oil and filter change, replaced wiper blades, replaced hvac filters, new key fob battery and and reset the oil maintenance light? All these items at this low mileage. The service attended had gone based on the age of the vehicle. Mind you it's a 2018. I'm glad of the outlook of the dealership and my cost was zero. He said this was part of the zero maintenance was included in my car warranty. I'm a happy camper. Dodged a $300 plus bullet.

I have owned BMWs for 10 years and lexus cars before that. There are a number of threads in the 3 and 4 series maintenance forums that seem credible.

Personally, I change my oil every 7500 miles. I replace all fluids every 30K except for transmission. I replaced that at 60K due to cost.

I plan to change hoses and belt(s) at 90K.

Only failures to date with 60K miles was a low pressure fuel pump at 45K under warranty and a crack/leak coolant reservoir at my 60K preventative maintenance.

It's a great car. Just need to invest in the good maintenance to prevent potential failures.

I would hope you got an owners manual with the car? There is a section devoted to maintenance and service requirements. It's fairly easy reading. As a tip, try the search engine on this site. Almost every question you have has probably been answered. It will save you time instead of reading how many times everyone else changes their own oil etc.
