Top end engine rattle

Good Afternoon, All

Am experiencing a rattle / clacking noise from what appears to be the top end of the engine between 1500 - 2300RPM. More pronounced when engine braking.

Ive noticed it goes away with oil changes, and then returns in a couple thousand miles. The last oil change (done @ BMW of Ridgefield here in CT), 5w-30 twin power was used. Am thinking about going to M 0W40 if i can still find it.

Anyone experience this? Going to dealer tomorrow for drive with shop foreman, but i have an inkling they wont be able to replicate

I had something similar. I may be way off, but in my case it was the engine cover rattling against the hood at certain frequencies. Just pulled the damned thing off lol.

Interesting - i rode with a BMW tech who felt it was normal ops. I may elect to go to a 0w40 weight as there is 5w30 in there now.
