Dash display under speedometer?

Does the digital display beneath the speedo ever show anything? Right now it just has a colorful ///M. Is there any way to get any useful data to show there?

I am spoiled from my previous X5 and M5 where I could actually see my digital speed AND the temperature at the same time. lol

The area around that colorful M doesn't seem configurable, the best I think you can do is show temp/time in the space directly above the mileage display in between the speedo/tach

I think there might be a way to get that area to also show digital speed, but I use hud for digital speed readout.

You can show digital speed in the display with temp too, with temp on the bottom (using the BC button) and digital speedo from the iDrive settings (shows below the lane assist icon if you have that). It's a bit redundant if you have a HUD, but I keep mine on anyway.

I agree that it is redundant, but in Arizona I wear sunglasses almost every day and I can't see the HUD with polarized lenses.

Contrary to the 5-series, the area under the speedo on the M3/4 is NOT a digital display.

Only the area defined by the yellow rectangle below is a digital display. And yes, you can have temperature AND digital speedo displayed as illustrated below. Use the BC button and the end of the turn signal stalk to toggle between the displayed parameters. You can also define in an iDrive menu what parameters are available to be displayed.

So, after going out to my car to check, I realize that I was asking the wrong question. lol

I have it currently set for speed and temp. I miss the more detail display that would also show miles til empty (along with speed and temp).

Pretty sure you can get miles to empty there as well... Have to use idrive to configure... I keep miles to empty displayed in f80...

I have the same issue with sunglasses - though I've heard that the hud is visible if they are diagonally polarized

You however cannot have outside temp, miles to empty and the digital speedo simultaneously displayed.

When the digital speedo is activated, only one other toggled parameter can be displayed. When the digital speedo is deactivated, time of day and outside temp are permanently displayed and a third toggled parameter can be displayed.

My solution was buying a $7 pair of non-polarized sunglasses (plus a $7 pair of yellowed lens driving glasses) at Targét that never leave the car.

With something like that plus what CanAutM3 mentioned, you'd have all of them displayed at once if you count the HUD speedo.

I'm selling a pair of good inexpensive non-polarized sunglasses here that work perfectly with HUD:

I have polarized Ray-Ban's in a carbon fiber frame that work with HUD. It does mute the HUD display brightness slightly, but it's still visible.

Maui Jim's work almost perfect. I'd say 85pct clarity
