Dyno figures

A friend of mine in the UK has dynoed his car and I’ve always been confused with the way you guys dyno in the USA as the figures are vastly different!!

What 100-200 times would a car making 550 who do?
And
What times would a car making 700+ whp do?

Thanks

Well for US times for us it's 60-130 and I'm assuming U.K. is 100-200 but 550whp which is e85 power on these cars anywhere from mid 6's to high 7's depending how dialed in you are upgraded turbos (700whp) low 6's to mid/high 5's

Well just had it confirmed .... a car here in the UK with 550 ish whp..... measured on a maha dyno ( standard and most commonly used dyno in Germany ) does 5.2 100-200km

So some of these dyno claims I hear/see are just .... hmmmmm

Also considering our cars came from the factory with corrected figures in DIN ... why are they all being compared to other correction factors?....
surely it makes sense to use the same or similar corrections and possibly dyno to measure true increases?
I know people will say there are other factors ... altitude blah blah.... but surely you would try and keep things as simple as possible?... discuss

Wow, can’t believe there hasn’t been anymore input considering all the figures people are quoting in relation to dyno figures.

Also had another car with 560 tw hp quoted as doing around the same sort of time.

So these so called 7-800 atw hp cars should be sub 4 100-200km.....!

Do you think 100-200km and 60-130 times differ much?

So that would be 62 mph to 124 mph

I think, i'm not an expert but, yes, 771whp and this 60-130mph is about right

Dynos are measuring devices and different types of dynos don't measure the same thing. Dynos are great tuning yardsticks to assess the before and after relative gains from tuning modifications. It is however completely pointless to compare absolute results obtained on differemt dynos.

I understand that and I agree, but since the cars were originally Tested using specific correction factors.... why are ( in my view ) some overinflated dynos always used to quote power?

Then you hear things like ‘mustang dynos read low!’ .... what.... maybe yours is reading too high.... lol

Why not just be real and say it like it is?

If your dyno says your car is making 700whp and mine is saying it’s making 500whp what yard stuck do you go by?

For example the standard F8x makes about 360-380 atw from factory.... yet straight away I see people have quoted that their car makes 450-470 atw sometimes more on a ‘x’ dyno!

If that were me, I would discount that initial estimation of power immediately and cease using that specific dyno.

BMW hp is measured using a DIN factor but people don’t use it to measure their tuning increases, why is that?... just curious to know... does DIN correction not give favourable figures?

Tuning yard sticks yes... but let’s be honest, most people use it as a whipping stick..... you should be running ‘x’ bhp with this and that!...... well could it just be that your dyno is lying to you and you are just failing to acknowledge that fact?

I’m not bashing....... I just would really love to get to the bottom of this as it’s been bugging me for years

That’s one of the reasons why I’m looking to see if there is a consistent correlation between the times put down and the power people think/know their cars are running.

Ok so if we assume by his then my mates car and your car are running the same times roughly... that being said ( I know they are different dynos, probably ) but one of you must have the incorrect power estimate!?

What power is making your friend on the dyno?
What mods?
Any quarter mile time slip?
I can assure you that my car, with my mods, is 5.59 secs from 60-130mph and i have done 10.0 @142.9mph in quarter mile. Also, i dynoed my car 3 times in the same dyno, giving an average of 770whp. I don't know how his dyno was calibrated but, maybe I'm wrong about, i feel the difference between my 93oct map vs red/meth map. On 93oct map i did 592whp. No meth.

F80 paul, my friend probably has the logs yes.

What would the logs show, that would be relevant to this conversation though!
