M4cs 2000km (1250mile) Roadtrip

I had to head to Highland Falls NY for 3 days of corporate leadership training at West Point last week. I decided to take my M4cs for the 2000km/1250 mile roundtrip. I figured that it takes almost longer to fly when factoring all the waiting time and driving to and from the airports, and I did not really want to spend 10 hours in an Avis rental Impala.

The trip was most pleasant. I was very surprised on how comfortable the car was. My M4cs is on MP-HAS and PSC2 tires, but the ride was never jarring nor uncomfortable. I also had some reserves regarding the seats devoid of adjustable lumbar support, but to my surprise, I never missed it and completed each 5 hour leg perfectly refreshed without a hint of lumbar discomfort. I was also happily surprised with the HiFi sound system. While not as powerful as the HK, the sound quality did not really leave me wanting at all. I also hit pretty heavy rain on a section of the trip, the PSC2 held perfectly fine without any hint of aquaplanning. And no, I never missed the center or doorcard armrests .

As for downsides, the M4cs' reduced sound insulation can be felt. It makes the car more enjoyable and involving on the DD but can become slightly more boomy from road noise on longer trips, which can get a little tiring on the long haul. Also, the M4cs' fuel economy is not as good as my previous 2015 M4 with which I could easily average 8.5 liters/100km or better on long trips. I averaged the same 9.1 liters/100km on each back and forth leg of this trip with the M4cs. I guess the added downforce aero and PSC2 tires add a fair bit of drag.

I even had an impromptu encounter with forum member rhk118 in Albany on the way down .

All in all, I am still enchanted with this car after 7 months of ownership. It brought back many of the aspect I found lacking in my previous M4. It is an even better dailer driver and track car than any of my previous ///Ms .

Congrats on the successful road trip.

It’s very refreshing to read positive experiences from an owner to balance out all the flack the car (sometimes unfairly) catches from the press.

Is your exhaust fully stock right now? If it comes off as boomy when stock, aftermarket products could potentially worsen that.

Sounds like a comfortable and successful road trip Can. Nice to see some good quality miles being put on the car, and not just being stored for the weekend. Thanks for sharing.

I have an MPE on my M4cs. However, the exhaust is pretty quiet. It is the road-noise that resonates more through the cabin. The PSC2 certainly don't help in that regard either. The M4cs has less sound insulation, and the lightweight doorcards let a fair bit more of sound through. It's not dramatic, but it is noticeably noisier inside my M4cs than it was compared to my 2015 M4.

That's awesome. Not to take away anything from the CS but seems like 100k is a lot for the original M3/4 to feel right. Should have been like this on the standard M3/4.

True, the M4 should have felt like that from the onset. But I paid 83k USD for my CS, not 100k .

Yes I know. You, Kief and some others Definateky a great buy. I meant what it was priced at vs a standard or CP M3/4.

At least for us in Canada, the MSRP for the CS is set much more reasonably than in the US. The CS is about $12k USD MSRP over a decently optioned CP in Canada, plus we get the unique LRG and FDB for free .

Sounds like you had a great drive, road noise aside. Great car!

Good info. I have tix to the Montreal F1 GP (a xmas gift from my understanding offspring) in June. It's a 7 hr drive from my place in PA..on the fence about taking the F80 with MPHAS vs. comfy boring Q5, now leaning F80.
