Octane Booster with JB4 map 2?

Here on the West Coast the highest octane gas easiest available is 92 octane. JB4 map 2 requires min of 93. There is 1 gas station about 20 mins away that sells a 97 octane, but at $8/gal. I've been mixing about 50/50 with that and a 92 octane to get me where it should be well above 93 octane.

A bottle of Royal Purple octane booster is roughly $12 which would significantly cut down on the cost of gas instead of mixing with the 97.

Has anyone used any of this Octane booster in their M3/M4's? It seems like there are a lot of info on these boosters, but I'm wondering if this really is ok for our engines and if it's worth going this route or sticking with 50/50 mixture.

Commercial octane boosters are a scam.

For example, if one says it'll raise your octane by 6 points. This is what they mean:

87 Octane + 6 Point Octane Boost = 87.6 Octane.

NOT 93 Octane.

$8/gal for 97 Octane.....thats ridiculous! I get 101 Octane in Germany for less than 6 euros a gallon and that's a lot!

I was looking at royal purple and it shows 30 point increase or 3 octane; which would be sufficient for me. Do they actually work though and any other problems long term I should be aware of?

I'm sure a lot of people running jb4 stage2 have to bein this situation and wonder what most guys are doing to slightly boost their octane.

Go to Home Depot and buy a few gallons of Toulane, or Xylene

Yes octane boosters do work , the ones containing MMT are the ones I feel and have shown in a forum thread on N54 that they do in fact work . I did logs with jb4 and showed before and after . Try out North American Blue magic (racing fuel) the black bottle as there are 2 diff colors ,only one that worked for me besides Nos. I wouldn't use these as a replacement as they aren't good on your cats

The NOS brand and torco boosters do work and add to the base octane but they tend to leave a residue on the o2 sensors and foul up the plugs
Had a car run torco for almost 20k miles on a mild tune and the plugs on it were pulled all had a large amount of orange residue and looked terrible
E85 ~ 4 gals per full tank should suffice for about 95 octane

used a bottle of NOS booster a decade ago. it left an orange residue on my plugs

from then on I mixed race fuel since it wasnt my daily driver

Just use torco. thats what Terry says he uses when not using race gas. Buy a 6 pack for $50 on amazon

Not familiar with the knock sensor on the S55, on the S65 it wasn't a good idea. As the residue left on the plugs interfered with the knock sensor protocol that the S65 had as the plugs were part of this. If this isn't an issue with the S55 I would have no issues using Torco. I have seen 800rwhp C5 Vettes that use this stuff religiously. However, if you are just using it to get to 93-95 octane, you aren't using that much to a point where it should even coat the plugs. Its those that use it to get o 100+ octane I have seen issues with coated plugs. Although Torco as well as Race Gas Concentrate say this doesn't affect performance.

I have used this in my own car with no ill effects as I don't blend a ton of it. Also, the cost really isn't that cheap..its $30 for 32 ounces or enough to turn 16 gallons of 91 to 95 octane. For $30 I can get 3 gallons or real race gas locally and its actual fuel not a concentrate. I think its mainly for those who can't get ahold of race fuel that this will appeal to. Even in S. Cali I buy 5 gallon pales of 105 unleaded VP racing fuel. I only need to blend 2.5 gallons of this to get to my 93 octane I desire.

BTW, heard good stuff from this company as well..

I normally cant get much more than 14gal into my tank. 32oz of Torco will take 92octane to 100octane. Also, a 32oz bottle is $22. If you buy the 5gal, it's $14 per 32oz. Definately less cost than race fuel. 5 gal of VP 105 in my area is $83 with taxes. Trick from a gas station (100oct) is $11.50 a gallon.

Having said that, I use torco for regular fill ups and vary from just a 1-2 octane bump to using 32oz to run map7. Sometimes I can fill up with race (rarely do this).

map0 - nice
map1 - wow torque
map2 - little more towards the top
map7 - holy crap (100octane)

I am sure it is just sponge math but I thinks it's off..."16 gallons of 91 to 95 octane". More like almost 98. I know.... +3 octane, not much of a difference but it's a bit better.

If you have access to e85 , then 4 gals with 91 eaquald around 95 octane
$2.09 per gal e85 and the rest 91 pump @$2.79 is around $36.66 for 14 gals of 95 octane gas

Including long-crank on cold starts, issues in cold start, rough idle, etc.
