Looking to purchase a used M4 - Total Newbie

Hi!

I've been reading so many threads on buying a used M4, but I still have some questions that may have already been covered and I apologize if it has.

So I've sent out some "interested in" emails from Autotrader (500-mile area search) on used and CPO M4 convertibles. I've received some replies and honestly, I'm not sure what to say.

I'm especially not sure how to respond with dealers in faraway locations. Negotiate on price? PPI? (Btw, is it dumb to buy CPO without a PPI?)

I guess what I'm asking is what is your process (start-to-finish) of dealing with a salesperson? Are the prices they listed usually firm or just a negotiating starting point?

Any help is GREATLY appreciated. And I apologize for my lack of experience in this area.

everything is negotiable.

start with carfax and pictures. microscope find flaws and bring down price. If you are okay with price; than you PPI wither in person or 3rd party. If that checks out; ship car or go pick it up yourself. But yes price first. because if u travel they know how "attached" you are to the car

What’s stopping a place from saying “ oh my mistake “ on the price?

Had that kinda happen to me 10 years ago. Dealership said they have the EVO X I was looking for, I get there in 30 minutes.. “oh my mistake we must of sold it, but we have this EVO X”. I’m always skeptical with dealerships.

lol I love the allure...the doughnuts coffee, dressed in tight ass suits. Making it seem as if Im sitting down with the CEO of my company to discuss performance numbers. Buying/Selling cars is a dirty process; both sides know that and rare to find dealers who are just happy with volume sales instead of pinching every penny. I guess that can be said about buyers too. but thats the game; you wanna do jiggery pokery with me. ill waste your whole Saturday trying to sell me a car

Thank you for the advice!

I know this next question is very subjective, but how do you know if the price is good or not (especially when looking at cars in faraway places)?

For example:
2016 M4 Convertible with 23,466 miles (Mineral Gray Metallic on Silverstone).
ZCP, DCT, Executive, Driver Assistance Plus, Enhanced Bluetooth
Carfax with one owner from a lease with no reported issues
$52,942 at a Mini dealership

This is a perfect example of what I was discussing with a friend of mine...

I told my friend I was going to start a business to help people buy new and used cars.

Even with the Internet the information is overwhelming.

For a fee I will help...

You"ll only get courtesy response at best from the Internet.

Thant's way too much, I have a 2018 M4 with all the bells & whistles for $68.3k with carbon packages and Dinan exhaust. white/full extended leather Vert also with 5,100 mile when I purchased. Don't be afraid to travel to find a great deal.. I drove 300 miles to pick up my car.

Thanks! I was looking for a competition package one... But I'm wondering if that's even necessary for me? I won't be tracking at all... Perhaps a regular M4 with Adaptive M Suspension and whatever else convenience options? Does the competition package upgraded parts like the suspension worth the premium? I have just so many questions...

Subjective on the comp. If you like the 20in 666 wheels, exhaust, seats, and slight bump in HP, get the comp. It would say though the most important package is the executive and led lights.

LED lights are killer but exec is a complete waste of money. It does zip for me and I actually wish I didn't have it. HUD is particularly annoying for normal use.
