BM3 e85 help

I am currently running stage 2 (AGG) tune with 91 oct but was curious about going to full e85 or even the e30 OTS tune.

So my question is what do I need to do for my car to safely run a e30 or full e85 tune? I currently have dp's, charge pipes, intake, catch can.

I was told to change my sparks and do oil changes every 3k miles not sure how accurate that is.

Any help would be appreciated thanks!

With your current mods, all you need is to select the E30 map and make sure you have an E30 mix

On e85 you would need to change out your spark plugs to NGK 97506 gapped down to .018-.020.

Do NGK 97506 plugs. Gap accordingly base on your goals/tuner used. A base E30 map is available, but if you want mad power with full E85, you'll need a custom tuner. I personally recommend Cary Jordan

How about oil changes?

Is every 5k still good? Any other maintenance needed with e85?

Yes every 5k is good to change the oil when running e85. You will need to run a tank (I do two tanks) of 91/93 gasoline through the car every 3-5k miles to keep the fuel system lubricated and clean. I personally recommend using Lucas oil upper cylinder lubricant/injector cleaner (8oz per tank) with the gas to aid in lubrication and cleaning.

Changing spark plugs is not required and has been known to cause misfires.
In reality if you're not pushing over 30 psi you can stay with OEM Bosch and gap between 0.20 - 0.22. If you're going to run more than 30 psi get Brisk Racing plugs.

You have everything you need a regarding upgrades. If you have pump E85 nearby just get a custom E85 from Paul or Cary.

Most tuners will recommend you cut your service intervals in half for plugs and oil. It is also recommended to run a few ounces Liquid Power top end lube every fill up. http://www.powerpluslubricants.com/s...ERTOPLUBE.html
Cycle a 91/93 tank every 3-4 fill ups.

Enjoy

Never had any misfires using these spark plugs and I'm on a Cary Jordan e85 tune. Cary even recommends these spark plugs if the NGK F8S aren't availible on his website.

I understand that they are recommended by tuners and bm3. I was just stating that you can and some do run OEM plugs without issues. I had the opposite experience while tuning E85. NGK'S misfired. Even tried 2 different sets to make sure and still misfired in upper rpms. Tuner (F80Paul) was shocked. Put OEM in gapped at 0.22 and no more misfires. Maybe my car is possessed. YMMV.

Ouch that sucks. Maybe I'll try out the OEM plugs next go around. I've been looking for the BMW Germany NGK SILZKBR8F8S but seem to be sold out everywhere or backordered.

I know this post is a bit old, but you are 100% on the button at least I think so and this needs to be made aware of. 2 sets of NGKs gapped and they were black as tar and miss firing like heck in way short of a period of time.. making me think they're maybe to cold or not enough boost? Idk, but I'm going to go with oem plugs and data log for knock/misfire. Thanks for confirming my suspicion.

I never seen black plugs running E40 on my old M4 with a JB4 on race map or my M2 on E30. Interesting

Found the F8S plugs here as a special order item. Picked up a set to use once the 97506 are ready to be replaced. Going to start tuning with Jordan for flex fuel in the coming weeks hehe

Is the F8S plug considered an upgrade to NGK 97506?

Yes, for E85. For pump fuel only I'd stick with the 97506

Thx, good to know. Since upgrading turbos, I've only run the 93 map, but about to install Dorch kit/EU5's for E85. Also have a fresh set of 97506 at .19", but if I have any issues I'll definitely consider F8S.

What gap are you running with the F8S plugs?

My car ran like crud with NGK 97506 on full E85 (since they were still gapped for pump gas at .022).

I have a set of F8S on order coming next week and was wondering if I should gap at .018 or .020.

In the meantime, I dropped down to E50 (from e75) due to my .022 gap and the car feels way better now.

There's so many threads about spark plugs lol.

I'm having trouble with my 97506s gapped at .022 for anything above E30. I was going to re-gap them to .018 to try full E85 down to E50 but my NGK F8S plugs just came today from Euroklasse (1 day shipping wow!). So I'm just going to gap the F8S plugs at .020 and toss out the 97506s. I got 10K on them, that's fine with me.
