BMW Insurance (Allianz)
So I've had the car for a year now and received my insurance renewal and to my shock horror, I see that my premium has gone up a whopping 50%!
First year I paid around $1800, and the new one is $2700! No policy details have changed, no claims, same address. I don't understand how it would increase so much considering the car is valued a lot less now. I called them up and they gave me the general BS reasons, they told me it's a variety of factors blah blah blah, no specifics to my situation. I told them it's not good enough and that they would hear from me again. Anyone else had similar experience recently with their renewals? I want to know if it's across the board or just me? I'm not paying $2700 for insurance, if they can't sort it out, I will look elsewhere.

Honeymoon is over. Move every year. RACV were cheapest for me, but I learned they neglected to tell me I had no cover because of THEIR billing stuff up. I instantly moved three cars to AAMI. My X5 is with BMW insure and was the best price, but I've not hit one year yet......

Hey guys. What did everyone go with? Got a big price hike this year.
2016 M3 DCT '16 - 1800 '17 - 1700 '18 - 1700 '19 - Quote for 2200 - I did have one claim at fault (well, not really as my tyre burst and damaged the wheel arch) I thought it would go up but not by 20-30%? A bit ridiculous. 36M, inner east Melbourne. |

That sounds too cheap! But great cover and price. I should move a bit further out. I used to have the choice of repairer on the policy, but got rid of it when I realised that Charlie who is my 1st choice anyway, is one of their approved/partner repairers. |

Hi,
I'm paying $1548, NRMA, based in Sydney. Agreed value, 25% multipolicy discount, $2000k excess. By comparison my daughter drives our old 2007 beater 320d, has 280,000km on the clock. The premium for that is $980, same insurer, same address, same drivers etc etc. The point I'm makings is what happens to premiums through a cars lifecycle. When cars first come out they are very cheap to insure, relatively. I guess the insurance companies know that the owners are careful, generally well off mature drivers etc. Over time as resale prices drop, insurance actually starts to go up relatively, as more risky drivers can buy them, and more accidents happen etc. Towards the end of the lifespan, like my 2007 320d, the prices are stupidly high. Thats because the cars are owned by people who really don't care too much, and lots of claims happen. The F80/82 is now at the point where premiums will really start to go up, percentage wise. The release of the G series models will accelerate that, as more F series get traded etc |

I had the same feeling. Recently bought a new subaru as a daily. Rolled my old insurance policy over, and when the renewal came through a couple of months later the premium was $117 for fully comprehensive on a new car. I said to my wife that something is not right, they have stuffed up, but read through the policyand all semed ok. She told me to shut up and just to pay it ASAP😀

What the...?!
Those prices seem very good! I didn't even know you can get a $200 excess. Scootah are you in a similar demographic (mid 30s, inner east, fully garaged)?! |

They may be cheaper but is the cost saving worth it if a crash repair screws your car up? |

AAMI were good during the repair process and I was invited to choose from a number of dealer approved body shops and I was invited to inspect the repair in a brightly lit clean room when collecting. Any issues and I could reject and they would redo. There were no issues, new door, I couldn't see the difference once it was sprayed and hung and they even reapplied the same ceramic coating. Years later the car looks as new regardless of lighting, no difference in shade, colour or finish (no more or no less orange peel than OE paint). I think they've gotten a bad wrap in the past and of cours my story may vary state by state and region by region but I have no concerns at this point.. |
