New Brakes Not Needed But Maintenance Plan Almost Up
My 2016 M3 is low mileage but the maintenance plan will end on it this October ('19). Currently only have about 9k miles on it and my brakes are still considered to be in good condition even though they're 4 years old. My question is, will BMW replace the brakes at a certain date vice mileage (within the four years even though the mileage requirement hasn't been met)? Or does the age of brakes not matter, only the mileage? Trying to get the most out of my maintenance plan before it ends, my spark plugs were changed last month at around 8k miles on the ODO.

If you want brakes, do this:
Hi, service advisor, my car vibrates pretty violently when I hit the brakes hard at highway speeds, like 75+mph. Obviously you would only do this if your car shudders when braking heavy at highway speeds... and not to falsify a maintenance claim. To answer your question, if you don't have warped rotors, no, they won't just replace your brakes if they're not below a certain mm thickness -- no matter the age of them.

With only 9k miles on your car, I'd say your chances of having the brakes on your car refreshed under the MP are never and never.
For giggles, ask how much it is to extend JUST the maintenance plan on your car. Spoilers: it's over 5k for +3 years. |

I had a similar situation on mine, my maintenance plan ended this December and I was just under 22k miles. I kinda asked about brakes and they said they were no where near worn enough to replace

And then there's the obvious question: If you drive your car so infrequently and it has such low mileage, what's the point of trying to get new brakes? You barely used the original ones.

Trying to get the most out of the maintenance plan before it ends. It's a $1k perk that I'd like to capitalize on it even if they are only 10-15k miles old when the plan ends.

Go to 1 track day or a few autocross events on current pads. Beat the snot out of them. Maybe you'll be lucky enough to warp the rotors. Then get a full brake job under warranty.

that's not a bad idea. The only downside would be if I managed to beat the crap out of them but not enough to meet their guidelines for new brakes.. I think I'll just hit up my SA and see what the requirement is.

If you are just driving on the street and have very low mileage then your brakes will likely last the length of your car ownership. I am at 60k miles on my original brakes and still going strong. No need to replace something just for the sake of it.
