Basically would you trade in your F80 M3 for a G20 M340i xDrive ?
No, G series M3 with a MT most likely.

Well, I for one really hope the G20 is a dynamic success and am pleased BMW chose to fit an electronic LSD in to the M340. But I expect the M version will do what all M versions have done to date - build on the goodness and take it to the next level dynamically and aesthetically (in a subtle way). And, most importantly, hopefully offer a MT...

Isn't that the opposite of all the rumors? Time will tell.

Last one I read is that it will and the regular G20 3/4 won’t. Another reason for me not to look seriously at a nose heavy M340 xDrive or whatever they call it now.

OP, you can make any car as fast or faster than your F8x, however, here is the reality:

Regular won't, M3 will.

The other unfortunate reality is that if M3 CS costs $90k, M3 CSL will cost >$100k, but it won't have the performance level needed to compete with other "born for the racetrack" competitors that are not commuter sedan based like Corvette Z06 and 911 GT3

On top of that there are the modified old cars (e.g. NA miata with 400whp) that still have a license plate despite being competition prepared, and non street legal factory race cars like 997 Cup, Radical Etc, that cost much less than $100k.

The bottom line is that "Born for the Racetrack" is likely going to be ///Marketing and not ///Motorsport

I want to believe , but am struggling because the sub $70k civic M3 is still the answer for me within the BMW lineup

On my 4th BMW and the 4th is the best car I've owned and experienced as a car enthusiast. Did I say my 4th BMW is my first M car ( 2016 F80 M3 Dct.) Need I say I will never buy another BMW if it's not an M. Not an M package but only an M. I could care less about #s or stats that the G series non M may provide, it's just something that a M brings to the table that you just dont get by buying a non M. Words can't explain the exhilaration an M brings.

I guess it's that most people will never drive on a track but anybody can mash the petal of an auto at a stop light and smile. So nothing wrong with that I guess.

AWD technology and easy auto transmissions are allowing virtually any quick car to have 0-60 times that look like a Porsche. And hey, that's cool. General consumers eat that up.

My buddy has a 5-series and always bragged that it was faster than my 997 because of its recorded 0-60 time. I'm like dude... if I wanted to go to jail or die I'd show you how "fast" your heavy, slow 5 series is on a 15 mile race up the Merritt Parkway (a narrow, windy highway in southern CT). Or better yet, let's take both cars to a track day and spend a lot of money and new tires to prove a dumb argument lol!

But regardless, it is impressive what bmw has done w the new 3 series. 0-60 times are getting fast across all manufactures and it's fun to watch it all. Lots of low end torque, awd that hooks the power up real efficiently, and transmissions that allow you to just mash the petal.

To a previous posters point, let's get a G20 and an F80 for a 60-120 MPH "roll" race.
I've mentioned this on several occasions in the past, but yet again, 0-60 times are meaningless if you're talking about a drag race. Time to speed has essentially nothing to do with time to distance., A 911 will beat up on a rear-wheel drive M5 to 60 because it will launch like a striped ape compared to the bimmer, so even though the M5 reaches 60 first, that means it is catching up at the time - and that's all you can say.

I am over 40 years old this year but I still love the F80 M3. I like how the BMW has kept the 3 Series' dimensions roughly the same, which makes it possible for me to use the new car but still feel the same. It reminded me of going to see its roadshow xe máy show in 2019 when the time was new.

I have an 18 440 with track handling and adaptive suspension. Just got a G80. Excited to see how different it is. Super excited.
