Damn, looks like I might have to put America muscle back on the list. I know BMW is attempting to be great stewards of the environment and make everyone happy but ------ Chevy and Ford are saying "what the hell" and rolling out some mean kick a$s beasts. And a lot of people (including me) are noticing. The sound of this car reminds me of the first time I heard a Cobra....wow.

Doesn't the v8 in the corvette have cylinder deactivation? that's probably the reason. plus a really really tall final gear- and do they still have the 1st-4th shift?

Interesting. So if one takes 400 lb ft of peak tq, let's assume 85% of it up to redline (in what would be reasonably expected in a flat-plane crank engine) = 340 lb ft x 8100 rpm / 5252 =~524 bhp at peak. At 8000 rpm, would be ~517 bhp, at 8200 rpm ~531 bhp

Based on the response about the displacement in that interview (thanks for posting Strongbark), the bore dimension of the engine is about 94.5 mm. That's pretty impressive for an engine with 100mm bore spacing - only 5.5mm of material betwwen cylinders. The S65, for comparison's sake, has a 92mm bore with a 98mm bore center (the latter dimension common to all BMW V8s). I think the old P60B40 race engine is 94mm bore though (but that doesn't have to go 150k miles without failing).
Of course when you look at stroke, the Voodoo has 92.8mm (same as Coyote according to the interview), while the S65 is just 75.2mm. Now, the Audi V8 and V10 engines in the R8 and RS4 also have a 92.8mm stroke. Those engines, however, have only a 90mm bore center (as does the new AMG 4.0L V8, by the way - very compact designs, these two), and as a result have a relatively small bore of 84.5mm. So roughly speaking, what Ford has done is take the longest stroke and biggest bore of the high revving engines out there and combine them into one high revving beast to end them all. Pretty awesome. |

28mpg highway without deactivation, 30mpg with it on. They just split the difference. Put the C7 in 6th around 60mph, leave it in Eco mode and it'll post some ridiculous mpg numbers in my experience(35+mpg). It runs much better in V4 mode with a few revs on the tach. |

I'll tell you what I like about this car - EVERYTHING. If we are positively gushing about this car over here in Bimmerpost, however, I imagine that they must be stark raving mad about it over in Ford world. This means that you'll probably have to beat out a lot of rednecks in line in order to get your paws on one. Good luck. I also don't think Ford will actually have to run the Gt350 against most of its competition. The argument "yes, but its got the Voodoo engine" will result in races being conceded. Carol Shelby won't be turning in his grave over this one. He'll be doing burnouts.

Why envy? Wouldn't someone just buy a GT350 if they liked it that much? It's really easy to sell your M and buy a GT350 if it is causing someone to be envious. My problem is deciding between all of the options... there are SOOOO many these days... Corvettes, Mustangs, C63s, M4s, Cayman GTS, 911, Jags... I'm exhausted just thinking about it

Have not had good experiences with Ford, but my last Ford was in the 90's. Not cross shopping Fords with BMW's. maybe ats-v's or c63's. Nice Mustang though, it is a special car. Never saw that many GT500's or BOSS or even Z/28's in my neck of the woods. Probably because I'm in LA.

A GT350 in all Black sans stripes would be killer.. I'm still leaning F80 M3 since it'll be a DD but I can't deny the awesomeness of this beast.

Yuuup. Ill be picking the f80 because of the 4 doors. If i was in the market for a 2 door, this car would be my number 1 pick. Perhaps if i get rid of my e46 m3 as my 2 door car for the mustang but i love that e46 too much to ever get rid of it.
