Rock Chip on Front Bumper MW

Hello Everyone ,

I seem to be having the worst luck with my front bumper attracting every rock here in NJ. I am rarely on highways and if I am a short period of time and 100% stay away from anything that would throw rocks up however….

Just looking for some forum advice and the best plan to attack this rock chip which I call a rock chip and and push also…

I've already researched heavily Dr color chip and automotive touch up knowing that the OEM touch up paint is not good at all.

Any advice is appreciated

Thank You!

Nothing much you can do but touch it up or respray and have it ppfed. I have ppf on all my cars mainly due to my commute on the BQE and its saved me numerous times.

No matter how proactive you are, something will still happen eventually. This will just be the first of many. The first one is the hardest one, then subsequent ones are just "wear and tear" and you stop to care as much....well that's how I was. I got the "high impact areas" PPF'd which helped, but it still had minor issues with rock dents (much like what you have minus the paint damage) from debris.

Even if you had PPF, that probably would have tore through it. The cheapest thing to do is just to use touch up paint and fill it. If that fails and it really bothers you, painting the entire thing is the only thing you can do.

Yea it was really nasty as you can see , I actually filled it with Dr. Color Chip and the color match isn't that bad at all considering it's Mineral White and fairly difficult to find a good match for touch up. I attached a photo just a quick fill.

In the photo it was just one coat I just went back after the photo and cleaned it up slightly a little better a little more with the seal act solution.

I did pick order touch up paint from another seemingly good site and I have yet to do a test on material to see the color match etc.

They have a base coat a mid coat and then a clear coat , I ordered this to see again how that match would be.

I will share results for others looking for a good color
match for touch up paint for BMW's mineral white A96 color code.

Another one…. And there is a noticeable dent from the impact off to the repair shop this time for some PDR. Not happy about this and then I'm going to just do a front expel wrap on the front 1/3 of the hood.

Do the whole hood, the seam on the middle of the hood will eventually catch some dirt and you'll have a faint line across the hood. I had it and it bugged me so I just replaced it with an entire hood cover. Same thing with fenders, started with partial, replaced it with full.

You'll be surprised how things hit you.... I even have chips on the power dome part of my hood that punctured the PPF. It's like little black dots if you look up close.

First time poster and trying to figure out the best touch up paint to fix a scratch inside the door of my MW 2019 X5. Did this second batch of touch up paint look better than Dr. ColorChip? Can’t decide which touch up paint to get! Thanks for your input.

Hey Welcome to the forum!!! , I know how crazy you are probably going.

DO NOT BUY THE BMW MW touch up paint

Share a photo here of the scratch and then I can make the best recommendation on which company kit etc

Appreciate the welcome! Still learning my way around... here are the photos.

Unfortunately someone closed one of my soft-close doors without the seat belt retracting and the automatic door shut itself. This created a pretty large gash in the paint and a slight dent. Hoping some touch-up paint will make it look better.

I've also got a couple rock chips on the front of the car. Trying to cover/fix those up as well. Ugh

Thanks again for any advice you can provide! Mineral White seems to be tough to match, so I was hoping to get some input before I purchase some touch-up paint.

Hey,

After trip to sea side last week I got few rock chips on the front bumper and the hood. Front bumper is going to get fixed next week but I'd rather not want the hood to be repainted.

why you do not advice to use BMW MW touch-up paint?

once I fix everything I'm getting PPF for full front. Those rock chips are my nightmare now.

Hey Guys ! It's always sad to see the damage BUT living in NJ we know what happens

Mineral White - Stay away from re spraying panels at all COSTS!!

The Last Photo is the most recent with all my touch ups done & actually PPF on the front quarter of the hood actually.

The BMW A96 mineral white touch up paint is closer to Alpine White then mineral white it will stick out even worse the the bare metal.

My recommendation for touch up paints are as follows that I have personally used . By no means am I an expert but there are two that seemed to have fit the bill for an at home DIY repair to get the job done.

For smaller chips

Dr. Color Chip (they sell a few kits) - I have my touch ups that I posted done with that so you can see the paint match through there.

For Larger chips scratches

Automotive Touch Up Paint - you will have to buy a base coat a mid coat (which has the mineral flake layer in it) and then a top coat and then potentially sand wet sand & compound (but again go by your level of skill here )

These cars suck up any and all rocks , I did a lot of repair on my front bumper with the Dr. Color Chip kit and they are not noticeable at all.

Not that my front bumper was in bad shape but it had some wear being it was mid 30k miles
