Strange grinding noise when turning right and car is cold
Hey guys,
Looking for some insight on this super strange situation I have with my 15 M3. When the car has sat, if I turn it on and take off within 5-10 seconds of starting it and I make a right turn I feel a loud grinding/crunching noise coming from the front passenger wheel but is felt through the shifter / transmission tunnel. (car is DCT) after about a minute or 2 the sound and feeling is gone and wont return until the next time it sits for a while. I cannot come across anything online, originally thought it was my custom mudguards getting caught on the tire but that is not the case. Maybe its the driveshaft?? But then why does it go away once the car warms up a bit? Ill get a video up soon as it is easily replicated, concerning but at the same time I want to know if anyone else has experienced this and its "normal"? Thanks |

Could it be the brake pad dragging on rotor at low speed? Just a thought.

Definitely don’t think it’s the brake rotor, too add to this sometimes upon start up I hear a grunt come from the transmission tunnel.
Attaching a quick clip I took, full cold start just make 2 right turns and you can hear the audible creak/grind coming from front of shifter footwell? Passenger footwell ish EDIT: Noise is present @ 9 second mark and 36 second mark Last edited by MINERALGREY_F80M3; 03-25-2021 at 11:06 AM.. |

Any guesses?
Wheel bearing? Only happens at low speeds turning right. Sometimes when I turn on the car I hear a grunt/grind from under the arm rest, it must all be connected. I have the secondary cats deleted and replaced with mufflers but they are significantly smaller than the original cats and why would turning have anything to do with the exhaust? Its a very annoying sound, ill try and get more clips soon |

I came across this thread and noise which is identical to my noise, only difference being most state that this happens upon hard acceleration but mine is just from turning right when cold but it does sound exactly like the video and from the same area.
I'm going to try and address it myself by bending the ebrake next time I have the car up in the air. |

Since u mentioned transmission tunnel, do you think it may be the differential? Which does sometimes emmit sounds when turning (mostly U turns)

Bumping up this thread as over the weekend I attempted to check my e-brake cables to be sure the retaining clips were okay and they were.
I was able to pull the heatshield down a bit from underneath and did feel the drivershaft close to the ebrake tube like in the pictured TSB so I am thinking i'll have to drop the exhaust and bend it up to see. The only thing that concerns me is that this noise does not happen on acceleration like in the TSB. It is only when the car is cold on start up or cold making a right turn. |
