There's a lot to consider - and I'm historically an M5 guy from back to the E39. The F10 M5 though didn't really feel like a M car to me despite its 560 hp - it was just too big. I do feel however that M cars in general are the gold standard with RS and AMG still playing catch up. Regarding the F80, as has been stated by many already:

1. Overall design is aggressive but refined - clean lines, bulging fender flares, power dome hood, purposeful front and rear bumper design
2. Tame when it needs to be, an animal when it has to be
3. Goldilocks size with wonderful balance; 4 doors for practicality
4. Enormous amounts of torque with no perceptible turbo lag
5. You can drive this thing with really nothing to prove - need to ignore all pretenders who feel the need to speed by you e.g., Civics, VW's, A4, 335, etc, etc. Believe me I am very fortunate to be able to own this car but it does feel good to be in an M and not HAVE to drive like an asshole everywhere
6. Related to the above - nice mellow-ish overrun burbles, not like the retarded crackle tunes the pretenders have on their cars
7. Quad tips
8. Sakhir Orange interior
9. The seats are damn near perfect
10. CF roof

There's more but I'll stop there!

Always loved the aesthetics though growing up I heard so many complaints about maintenance and unreliability which kept me away. My brother is a die hard BMW fan which pushed me away even more, since we seem to always have opposite taste lol.
When I first drove his M4 ohhhh the envy set in and I kept trying to dismiss it...It was the most well rounded performance car I had ever driven. I had been saving to quench this craving. Out of nowhere my bro told me he was going to sell the car, being a garage queen with only 25k miles I swooped it up and been driving it like I stole it lol. Amazing engineering, I fell in love instantly (exc) crank hub...very unlikely though annoying to think about, I went through this with yamaha timing chains...believe it's either a bad batch of washers or installation, I'm sure bmw tested these when installed correctly on much more grueling/demanding tests.

What got me was seeing them on the road. Even stock, I lusted after the look, the stance. I begged dealers to get me out of my 335 lease until someone did with 4 months left lol. That hasn't changed. It's gorgeous. I love just staring at it sometimes. I wish I had more time to keep it clean, but the ceramic and PPF help.

Now what keeps me interested is the energy it exudes when driving. Once out of Efficient (yes, I drive moderately until the oil warms up), it just wants to hurl me down the road, and sometimes reminds me I'm not Randy Pobst. I need that scare every once in a while, and this car does it well, without killing me, or sending me into a ditch. Other than my spun crank hub, been rock solid

Love at first drive

When shopping for my wife's last car sales person at the dealership tossed me the keys to a preowned M3 with DCT. Its was a beast so much so my wife was worried to drive it. I was all in but I was also concerned about driving it in the wet. A year later my wife got me a gift of M driving school in SC. All the planing to pick a good time to go for weather and it ended up being a torrential downpour all day.

After driving the M2 M3 and M4 hard all day at the track in very wet conditions(no sprinklers on the wet skid pad) I was sold on what a great all around car the M3 was.

Now 2 years later and I have my F80 6 speed and find new reasons to love it more each day. I will be keeping this one for a bit, well at least until the M3 touring arrives.

On my test drive I had to merge on to the HWY.

It was the equivalent of being cleared for take off on a private jet sitting in first class!

Love the f80 for its combination of aggressive styling and how the drive matches its overall aesthetics matched with the power this car has. Also, the difference between the f80 and regular 3 series is much more noticeable (compared to prior generations).

The throttle sensitivity is one of my favorite aspects of this car and how it is adjustable as well. I like how the car was engineered regarding cooling, carbon roof, strut brace, driveshaft, weight, etc.. They really made it special (besides crankhub).

Plethora of aftermarket modifications available. Hard to get bored with this car.

Packaged with DCT, I feel like I'm driving a race car. So raw and so much attitude yet I can drive my kids in it easily and daily drive this all 4 seasons. Will age well too. Love this car.
