Average 6MT clutch life?

Just wanted to get everyone who drives 6MT to post their KM (or miles) and if they've done a clutch replace yet.

I've had my car since 2017 April, it's at 46k KM (28k miles) and I'm the second owner. I picked the car up used at 22k KM so I have no idea how the dude before me really drove this thing. I'm starting to feel like my clutch engagement isn't what it used to be. The overall bite (length?) seems really small (the time it takes to go from disengaged to fully engaged, not the bite point). I don't know if I'm just imagining things or if I'll need to replace something soon. I drive fairly hard but my shifts are pretty good. I don't usually drive in a lot of traffic so I'm not really on the clutch that much in 1st etc.

Could anyone give some insight on this topic?

I am hoping its as durable as that on my 2008 6spd E60 M5 which still has the original clutch at 124,000 miles.

If you mash the gas and you see the RPMs going up but your speed isn't going up, that means your clutch is slipping and you will need a new one. Try that test.

I've tried that, so far it seems like it's still working normally.

I wouldn't worry about the clutch at all. My experience with BMWs over the past 20 years is that the clutch is the most durable thing on the car. I've never burned out one or needed one replaced, and I've had several M cars with around 100k miles on them.

2nd owner here. Picked up with 28K on the dash at a BMW dealership.

(Same story with not knowing how the previous driver was)

Would slip out of 1st gear and not engage properly around 35K.

Took it to them and the swapped the transmission (refurbished by BMW) under warranty no questions asked.

Other than that, the clutch has not been touched. I will try to have them look when the warranty is out at Dec of this year.

+1

If you know how to drive stick properly the clutch should last essentially the life of the vehicle. Certainly to 100k miles and beyond.

if your clutch is lasting <80k miles; you are either street racing or a terrible manual driver.
