As always great video from TH. The transition between Thomas in the old one and James screaming in the new one was hilarious. I absolutely love the latest generation E63S, especially in unicorn form (aka wagon), all it needs to be perfect is a hood ornament.

Everything is selling right now at msrp or above. Even ugly ass cars. Used car prices are through the roof. Kia's have markups, it is crazy. This can't last forever.

My dad has exclusively owned Mercedes cars since the mid 70s. There’s a special feeling driving around and seeing that three pointed star at the end of the hood. It’s a sad end of an era.

Tell me about it, my local MB dealer can't get SUV "Coupes" at all and demand is through the roof for them (for some reason), and people are paying anywhere from $5-15k over sticker for a GLE coupe. Ridiculous for an SUV that literally makes you pay more for less practicality, space, visibility, etc.

The fact that the brand new redesigned G8x in this insane market is not seeing huge markups across the board tells you something. Yes they are selling at msrp but so is everything. We are living in a world right now where Kia Tellurides have $15k markups. My two local MB dealers are dealing with the same thing. Drive by any dealer in my city, they have their inventory spaced out to make it look like the lot is full. Normally they don't enough space, the overflow goes on exterior lots. I keep getting emails from my BMW dealer practically begging me to sell them one of my cars. These dealers are hurting for inventory, they will take anything.

The more I look at what I'd replace the M4 with the harder it becomes because there really is nothing in the price range to replace it with, or so it seems.

You seem to either have to compromise on interior/model year, or engine in the price range.

Apparently, BMW dealers were marking up the G8x in late April.

https://g80.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=1819788

Today, the markups are gone.

Huh?!?! They've been selling with mark-ups here since release. Trying to find one in California that isn't marked up is a chore. The first month of release there were some that sold for $20k above sticker; average is $5-10k.

Put about 40k miles on the M in less than three years despite it being the second car and often leaving it sitting in the garage for several weeks (two months this past winter). 5am weekend ride, a track day, fam vacation, etc.

Got my usual solicitation for the BMWCCA raffle today. I'd thought that this would be the first time in a long time I wouldn't participate because I didn't want to risk accidentally owning a shitshow G8x.

The raffle prizes are M2 and M8 so all is good

If by "chore" you mean checking your email for an unsolicited offer by your local NorCal dealership for 5% off MSRP then, yup.

It's like the navy guy on shore leave who can't find a hooker 1000' from the dock and says there's a global hooker shortage

EDIT: btw, from another thread today, East Coast - i won't quote to protect the innocent: "My CA told me that they just received a ton of M3/4 allocations this morning (2022)"

I keep getting mailers to trade mine in for a measly 750$ credit and a brand new beaver to stroke.

When I was actively looking, I called nearly every dealership in SoCal and NorCal. No dice! I ultimately phoned a friend and found one at MSRP who offered it as a favor. When I ultimately decided to just get the Porsche, I phoned that same friend to find my Carrera S deal/allocation. I called every other Porsche dealer in SoCal and none were willing to budge off ADM except one that said they'd maybe offer MSRP. At that point I just buckled in with my dealer and was thankful for the 2.5% off I did receive.

Well, yeah, on Porsche ... but on the G8x I've had CA dealers pinging me every 2 weeks since the release with unsolicited under MSRP offers ... and that includes Pacific BMW, Riverside, and New Century in SoCal.

And I better grab this deal NOW because next week ADMs! They don't have a choice, you see, but because I'm a special customer I'm getting this special deal. And that happens about every 2 weeks, and now that its end of quarter I'm assuming is why they're flooding my inbox again.

In NorCal it's not even a question - you walk onto a lot and the G8x are hidden so you gotta walk back there, but if you even glance at them

They're just excited about these deals and they don't want you to miss out. This is all they'll get, probably forever.

Porsche is far easier to judge based on allocation numbers. They don't build 10,000+ 911/718 cars unlike BMW, Audi or Benz (certain Benz anyway).

It is definitely different with BMW because of how many they tend to build each year or how many they sale. It is too difficult to really tell I think regardless of what we are thinking. Either it's confirmation bias or not. I can ask my friends at New Century directly and find out very quickly but, honestly I haven't been extremely interested with BMW so I don't have the need to do so. They could be hiding the G8x based on looks and feedback, they could have sold them. I prefer not to judge because it doesn't do us any good at the moment but one thing I do know is, it does depend on the location when it comes to dealerships for BMW.

While I have friends and family at New Century, I also know their prices are generally a tad bit higher compared to a place like Monrovia BMW, BMW Riverside and Irvine BMW.

It can be kind of the same with Porsche but when it comes to their 911 or 718, their prices are generally, roughly the same across the board as all dealerships can see the same inventory being imported to the US. The dealerships share it. Some gets one or two for themselves but the they can see all being given to the US dealerships and customers and lock anyone of them down if they see it. That was how we got our first Porsche actually.

This has been my experience too.

"Please come and test drive our G8x, Are you still interested in an M4? How can we help you?"

Never, ever got that before from a Bay Area BMW dealership.

Porsche is more like "Give us $10K an we'll put you on the waitlist... maybe"

Not interested in dealing with either of these scenarios, tbh.

Yep. The M is my only car although I got a company car that I've been using a lot recently so I've not driven my M a whole lot.

I think the A45S is a superb daily car and I love the styling but it's a lot less engine sound for the fun times. You can get some nice sound if you remove the OPF and change the catback but that would kill the engine and drivetrain warranty right there and then while also making the car "illegal" emission wise.

Tech and interior is great tho and their HUD and that long screen is something I've come to love.
