Not specific times, but estimated figures...."more than 10 seconds faster than the E9X around the N'Ring".

Isn't the reason it seems like there is more hype now because forums, social media and web based reviews/articles are so much more popular and active now compared to 7 years ago? Practically free advertising.

I drove a comp package M6 around a track a few months back and the car was a animal, way faster then the M3, the torque was shocking. The M3/4 will be the same but better because its smaller size, weight and the time BMW has had to improve on this new tech.

I will be getting either the Z06 next year or the c63 amg depending on the reviews as well when the time comes so my brain is not just a BMW brain lol... I give props to a car and company when it's due. MB is changing and I believe they will push BMW to also change for the better, the more competition the better it will be for all of us consumers.

Yes sir, the better half agreed so it's on like donkey kong. She doesn't like the 650 so we ll split time between the two cars M3 for sure and it's either Z06 or AMG But we saw the z06 at the DC car show and she wasn't too crazy about it so we ll have to wait till the new C63 is out.

400 torque @ less than 2000 rpms is going to make this M3/4 drive more like a corvette and less like the M3s of the past.

folks will be surprised because it is going to be a new experience. fortunately, i expect it will be a rather good one.

Corvette has 630 lb/ft torque and weighs less than the m4. Dont get me wrong, I am super excited about the new car but i think the 100 or so lb/ft torque increase is just a bit over rated.

I am more excited about the interior and overall tech improvements like the HUD.

Was the corporate hype at this level when the E9x generation came out? I can't remember it being as intense. They just released the car and that was it, let the reviews provide the advertising magic. Now you've got development videos, footage of race drivers opining on the car's 'development', BMW making blog posts, german guys using words like "animal" (kind of scary come to think of it).

7 years ago vs now, Geezus why is it so hard for people to move along when there is change? It's 2014, technology will only advance faster and become better so will advertising techniques. Everyone talks about BMW as if they are a charity, they are a business and just like any business they are here to make $$. Looks at all the brands that are successful, they advertise you to death until it's imbedded in our brain.

While car forums existed in 2007, social media was not in the same state of affairs as it is today. This is honestly no real surprise.

No one is ready for this engine? Come now... too much marketing speak. I believe it'll be remarkable like past M tunes, bit to say nobody will be ready for it? Well, that better be a jet engine powered by a quantum computer putting out 1,000hp... then I'd agree NOBODY would have been ready for that!

Not to be, "that guy," but it sure would be refreshing to get some analysis on the M cars from people who aren't in someway compensated by the company that makes the car. I dunno, call me crazy...

Jockey,

You have a good point, but don't you think the same social media/different times argument would/should apply to other car manufacturers such as GM for Corvette, Mercedes for AMG, or Audi for RS5? None of those brands have this level of advertising material being published across the web. I think what these other guys are trying to say is, this time around BMW is trying to sell these cars to people whereas in the past, the cars sold themselves.

I have an order on the new M3 and I'm not attached to my current car in anyway before you flame me, I was just providing a different perspective.

I also love the new car and cannot wait to drive one.

I understand what your saying, but I honestly think it's an over-exaggeration by some of the forum members here.

I think BMW is smart. They put out all of this info and we lap it up. Then we ask for more. And more, etc.

I can in no way fault BMW for selling their car. A lot of people seem to forget that BMW is in the business to make money. So why not put out as much info as possible about this car and garner as much attention as possible?

So cars sold on their own to a few enthusiast... BMW now wants to capitalize on the market and triple their revenue... Wow what a concept, making money :-)
