Nice, I've got two car seats in back right now for a 6 year old and a 2 year old. The 2 year old doesn't 100% get the hair whipping around in her face yet. The 6 year old, however, loves it and wants me to go faster all the time - only in this car though, the rest of the time she calls us out for speeding; I think I'll have to make sure she gets a non sorry cat when she turns 16, or I'll have a problem in my hands. 🤣
Haha. Ya when they can see the speedometer and understand what the road signs mean, those are fun conversations

M4 is perfect for family of 4. As much as I wanted the 911, legroom aside, it doesn't have headrest for the backseat so not very safe once they grow pass that seat-back.

Just came across this thread for F83's. My convertible top has scratches on the top of it only on the driver side.

Has anyone experienced scratches from top operation ?

I am bringing the car to the dealer next week since still under warranty but I am curious to know if others have had this issue and what was the fix that the dealer did to correct ?

Thank you!

No scratches here and I put the top down all the time.

I've heard of the plastic connecting piece breaking and scratching the crap out of the top, so maybe that happened earlier if you bought it from someone like that.?.

If you buy one new go straight to manufacturer and avoid Vivid Racing.

They may promise to ship it but not actually ship it and have terrible customer service.

I had to dispute the charge through my credit card company after ordering from Vivid Racing, who never sent the product or issued a refund despite promises. Big waste of time. I later ordered direct from the manufacturer and got the product within about a week.

Ah that stinks
I think I waited a couple weeks from them. I know the email you’re referring to but didn’t pay much mind to it.

Hey vert gang, maybe I should ask in here.

Has anyone done a F83 (convertible) full race build? I was trying to find a project like this online, but nobody seems to have done it. In short, I'm thinking about what would happen if you were to physically remove the convertible roof and glass from a F83 to save weight, install a roll cage, and make it into a full on (or close to it) race car? Think Miata, but with a S55. It would theoretically be lighter than a F80 or F82 and I've also heard that the rear suspension (anti swaybar) is stronger to support the stowed roof weight.

Sorry, just a crazy hair-brained idea that me and a like minded family member were discussing this evening and thought I'd ask the brain trust here. Merry Christmas!

Pic of my F83 below.

I may be wrong but I believe the hardtop is the least heavy part of the car. The added weight comes from all the structural beefing they did to the chassis.
So I don’t think it could theoretically ever be lighter than the coupe/sedan regardless of whether that tops been ripped off or not.

Just not in its bones

Dang. I know the F83 specific seats (with neck heating stuff) weigh a lot, so switching to light seat and removing the rears should help. I'm curious what else is different though.

Hey, thanks! It's on Macht Schnell springs which lowers it pretty significantly. Here is a before and after pic. Also did the front antisway bar from H&R.

Thank you for picture!
Looking at that picture made me want to get springs more!

Macht Schnell seems to have one for all F8x. But F83 stock spring rates are diff from F82. One spring model can't or shouldn't cover all?

EMD doesn't seem to have one for F83

HR does seem to have one for F83 but drops seem too big.

Eibach is another option, selling separate springs for F83, apart from F80 & F82. But it's all sold out.

The f83 checked all the boxes for me like no other car in my budget, it's like Goldilocks syndrome. It's a bimmer, it's not as long as an m6, not short as a 235i, hard top, 400hp to rear wheels, dct, M engineering, rear seats- not for passengers, I just can't see myself in a roadster, no Miata, boxster, z4, etc - just not for me. I'm pretty happy with mines and plan on keeping it for a few more years, I'd consider moving on to a 992 convertible or a g83 (black to blend in with the soft roof and grill) can't really think of anything else.

Haha, I have to agree with you all the way.
I don't mind what others think, it's such a blast on those sunny days with the top down and in M mode.
Sounds and feels awesome.
