"My friend has a bmw (320i) just like your car (F82)" -.-

Any F80/F82 owners tired of non-enthusiasts comparing your m3/m4 to their friends 320i and pretending they are on the same level? This drives me crazy. Some friends and random people i have met feel the need to always tell me how they have a friend that has a Bmw "exactly" like my car. This always comes from a certain demographic of the population. I feel the urge to educate them on what an M car is, but i don't want to come off as a douche. Sorry, just had to vent.

Are they "pretending" and having a "need" if they have no idea that your car actually is different? People like to mention commonalities. If it's not done maliciously, what does it matter? I don't doubt we've all said something similar on a topic we know nothing about.

Haven't had that happen and honestly wouldn't really care if it did. Maybe it's the orange that discourages comparisons...

Curiously, I've found that the bone stock F80 M3 that I drive looks different enough from standard 3-series sedans that people don't compare to it. Non-car people have referred to it as "that really sporty car you drive" and strangers have commented unsolicited that "its a really beautiful car."

I think that the F80's hips, stance, and (ironically) the choice of the 513M wheels contribute to its distinctive look vis-a-vis the standard 3-series.

If somebody confused your car for an M4 GTS or an M6 would you still feel the need to "educate" them?

Not everyone likes cars and it's not a big deal. I swear we have a thread like this every week lol.

You bought the car for yourself so who cares what people think about it.

It would annoy me too. Just say "listen here you ignorant fuck, it's an M4 and costs twice as much as a POS $35,000 320 with headlights from 1989.

All kidding aside, what demographic always mentions it? I'm curios, you can PM me if you prefer

Had to break the news to her.... Ironically it helped me, when she realized the M4 was cheaper ..

I actually like my M3 for this reason. Most people think it's a nicer 3 but just can't tell why or how it looks a lot nicer than the other ones. I don't like to be singled out as the one driving a Porsche or Maserati or whatever. It is a plus in my books.

Why?
If he told you that his wife/gf is "just like yours", wouldn't that be a compliment?
Even if she is ugly?

I actually thought about putting 320i or 328d badges on my car as a joke.

I personally wouldn't care and would just say "oh awesome that's great" (in fact I got an m3 sedan in AW for that anonymity)

Yeah, I don't get that either! Just yesterday I saw an exact visual duplicate of my car (Sakhir Orange/Black, 19" Black wheels) for the first time since I ordered it back in February. I attend a lot of local BMW events (SD BMW CCA) and still haven't seen another Sakhir Orange M4.
