Took the F83 in about 8" of snow yesterday
I bought my 2015 F83 about 4 weeks ago and had winter performance tires put on 3 weeks ago but haven't really had a chance to see how they handle snow until yesterday when a snow storm came through Iowa. I took out my car in the afternoon before the ice came to see what it could do on unplowed (but slightly driven) roads. I was impressed, though I did get stuck a couple times on a relatively steep incline. Admittedly, I was expecting to do a bit better on the hills, but stopping and turning was far better than I've had in past vehicles (non-sports cars with front or AWD on all season tires).
This bit made me smile, though. There's a Dodge Charger in my neighborhood that got stuck multiple times on our completely flat, unplowed residential street, while I just calmly made it to my house. Last edited by codys21; 12-31-2020 at 01:51 PM.. Reason: Typo |

I drive my F82 on Alpina PA4's all winter and have driven it through the craziest snow storms here in toronto. We are talking complete downpour probably 15-20 cm. It is a blast but it makes a real spectacle.
Stopping and turning is great, it's the getting going that's hard, the back end goes completely out of wack and you gotta really mess around with the throttle and gear to get you moving. Either way it is driveable i just hope you don't have too many red lights |

Ha I'm already plowing through even without it. I was surprised how much snow was packed in the lower grilles/vents. But the front lip definitely would've made it worse.

I do live in Canada, so we do have plenty of snow. If there's more than 3" on the grown, I am indeed plowing . It's kinda fun to see snow being thrown straight over the hood though

Nice! I was too chicken to venture out and only made it to the cul-de-sac across the street - a Jeep did drive by and thought I was stuck, but it had no problems in the snow

I wanted a staggered setup but the only 275/40R-18 winter performance tire on Tire Rack is the Pirelli Winter Sottozero 3 at $360 each and I just didn't want to do that. There are a couple other (less expensive but still great) choices in 265/40R-18 but at that point I figured just go with the square setup and I can at least rotate front to back. |

No need for tire stretch, too much stretch is bad. If you don't wanna think about what wheels to buy, just get the BMW set on the used market and be done with it.

Thats awesome as I know you can get some serious snow in montreal. ever had any issues or any tips when driving with a lip on the snowy days especially when dealing with ruts and ice build up sections? When it gets too crazy here in Winnipeg I am too hesitant to take the car out because of lip / splitters etc.

I've got 255/40/19 Blizzaks on my stock staggered wheels. Works well for snow, doesn't look bad.
