Buying a 2018 M3, questions.

Hey Guys,

Looking at a 2018 M3 that is at a dealership by me. Wanted to get some inputs from you guys.

1. Coming from a Porsche word where you can check the DME report and find out how many over revs a particular car has had. Is there something like that on the M3?

2. How can I tell if a car has ever been tuned? Is there a way to check max boost history, or any other way to check?

3. What should I be looking for when inspecting the car?

Is it DCT or 6MT? The DCT cannot overrev. I'm not sure there's an easy way to check overrevs in the M3

If they connect it to a BMW computer it should tell them whether it's been tuned very fast and that should flag the car.

The cars are pretty reliable and should be under warranty still, so all issues should be taken care of.

Sometimes you can ask the BMW dealer to run the complete history of the car and get an idea of what happened to it

2. How can I tell if a car has ever been tuned? Is there a way to check max boost history, or any other way to check? BMW has info...they use it to deny warranty claims. I would not buy without tune/over-rev history in order to avoid future warranty issues

Get a PPI done by a shop familiar with car. Have shop check brake pads, intercooler coolant level, axle and differential leaks, and worn bushings. Get full service history. Make sure 1,200 mile service was completed. Look at when next service is due on plugs, brakes, etc. to ensure you are not walking into $$.
