Random rebooting of system.

This just started today, and is happening more frequently, the system just reboots randomly, anyone else experience this? Is there a way to do a hard reset? No other system is affected, just the entertainment/nav. No error message. Thanks in advance!

I've had my m4 since aug 2014 and I've seen this happen maybe twice, but otherwise everything seems to work fine. I have done some coding to my car, don't remember if the first time was before or after I did coding, how about you?

Curious if other people have seen this issue and if its coding related.

My system rebooted while I was driving after I had about 200 miles on it.

No coding no nothing.

No issues since that time. I have about 800 miles on it now.

This happened in my e92 and eventually the whole navi unit had to be replaced

I had this happen to me a few times. Took it to the dealership, and they reinstalled (and updated) all of the software. so far so good.

I have done no coding, but have had JB4 piggyback on it since I took delivery, this just started after 3500 miles though.

This just happened to me. 700 miles on the car. I did some coding. Can't believe that other people are getting the same issue with a brand new car.

2800 miles on mine and just started happening a few days ago. Same symptoms with the increased frequency. Still in the shop now and has been for a day and a half. So far they have not been able to source the issue........

Argh, I may just hold off on taking mine in until they have figured out the problem. Have they told you what they have tried so far?

The dealer just got back to me. Their diagnosis is that the entire head unit has to be replaced. Parts have to come from the factory with a 4-6 week wait.........Not happy

Ugh, sure hope this isn't what happens to me. Taking it in next Tue.

Head unit has to be replaced, they said 1-2 weeks, part from germany. Am glad they diagnosed and ordered this in a few hours, at least. Ugh.

My nav updated over the weekend, shut down as soon as it was done. Got in the car today, asked me if i wanted to restart the system for the updates to take effect, i clicked ok, nothing happened. Then 20 min into the drive the nav started to reboot on its own. On my way home it started rebooting every few minutes.

This is the second issue ive had with my idrive. First the connected drive now this. I really hipe they dont have to replace the whole unit. Hopefully my dealer can figure out whats going on.

Yikes ... Just had this happen to me while driving in.. Happened twice ... Just nav/entertainment rebooted ... 5k miles .. Was thinking it might be iPhone causing issues ... Cause my iPhone was also acting funky

If just twice, might be ok? Mine reboots at least 10 times each times i drive now (~15-30 min drives). This morning it just went on a reboot cycle, rebooting over and over as soon as it loaded up about 10 times in a row. Worst part was that i really needed the nav to get to a new work location 35 miles away. I dont use tolls either, but with each reboot, the nav reverts back to default settings so i would have to keep changing setting back to avoid tolls. I ended up just using google maps from my pone to get to work.

So now the backorder is 3 wks or more. No more head units in stock in US OR Germany, argh.

I just got mine back from the dealer. They "reinstalled software" whatever that means, their words not mine. All my settings were erased in idrive, including M1/2 buttons, just like when new. Everything works perfectly again.

Just as point of reference, i initially have connected drive problems, which was fixed, then i started have the reboot issue, got to the point where mine kept rebooting a few times a minute.

Anyone else having these issues with rebooting of the instrument cluster with iDrive? I had a strange incident after going for a drive and stopping off for shopping. The car was warm and was using nav, outside temp ~45F/inside temp 70F.

2016 M4, DCT, Exec, Active Safety, Aug build with 4G, no coding, no mods
890mi on the clock when this occurred 11/28

As I exited the highway the entire dash flashed on and off several times. Instrument cluster went completely dark, iDrive completely dark but the headlights, steering, sat radio were all still working. Tach and speedometer both dropped to zero. I shut off the radio immediately to understand what was going on but the nav kept working as the cluster and iDrive started on/off. This repeated for 2 discrete episodes of on/off flashing but I never lost any systems, just the displays and gauges.

At the bottom of the ramp I cycled the car off and restarted it. Snapped a picture of the cluster and set my phone to video in case it happened again but it has not since. Drove the car a few miles yesterday to run an errand and everything was normal.
