DP & Mid-Pipe or DP only with "M" Performance Exhaust
Trying to decide whether or not to upgrade to Downpipes only or Downpipes and Mid-Pipe?
I ask because I have the port installed "M" Performance Exhaust and from what I understand, it is made by Akrapovic. If so would there really be a better mid-pipe out there? Currently have Turner Motorsports piggy back and am fully aware I would need to go to a JB4 if I want aftermarket DP's.

That is misinformation. The M-Performance Exhaust for the F8x platform is NOT designed or made by Akrapovic. I honestly don't understand how that started and why reviewers/journalists alike get that information incorrect.

If you are that certain Akrapovic doesn't have anything to do with R&D, then who does?

Start with that I'd say and then make the decision to do the midpipes

The M-Performance Exhaust was developed and designed in house at BMW and is made in Germany. It is not manufactured in Slovenia. The exhaust is manufactured by Prototechnik GmbH. Even the Prototechnik Brochure has the MPE plastered on their Products page.

I have the MPE on my M4. (It is NOT made by Akra)...
FABSPEED makes a catless x-pipe just for use with the MPE. It is sized specifically for the cut in the exhaust required to fit the MPE. So, if you already have the MPE, the FABSPEED MPE x-pipe will fit perfectly: http://www.fabspeed.com/bmw-m3-m4-f8...bypass-x-pipe/ FABSPEED also makes catless downpipes for the M3/M4 so I also got a set of those: http://www.fabspeed.com/bmw-m3-m4-f8...ass-downpipes/ No cats anywhere on my track car. Straight from the turbo outlets to the MPE resonator. I also have the VSC-2 remote flap controller so I can open/close the exhaust flaps on demand: http://www.cgprecision.com/cms/index...und-controller Did I mention it was a bit loud? Because if I did, I didn't hear me...

I had downpipes with my MPE, but took it off within a couple of months. It was way too farty and raspy. Only sounded good after the car was warmed up and with normal driving (Not WOT). Once you push on it, the rasp galore begins.

Yeah, the most I will do is Evo pipes not touching DPs.

Yes, I ran the x-pipe without the dp's for several weeks. The sound was a bunch more refined for street use. However, the dp's and x-pipe sound great at the track. If you are going to run the dp's, x-pipe, and mpe on the street, a little throttle management and flap management would be in order.
