Air bag recall - who's had it swapped

Hi guys

Just had my 15k service done and dealer swapped the drivers airbag over

I noticed immediately the texture on the cover is different, they've swapped it with the non-M airbag

The real M cars have a smooth leather covered airbag

For those that have had it replaced, did you get a leather or plastic airbag

Ok that was fast

Seems I was right, there are 2 versions and I got the wrong one fitted

Dealer is sorting it

Mods please leave thread up as there'd be a few owners aren't aware

The airbag itself is same for all, it's just the cover that differs

Mine has been changed and thankfully the leather feeling cover is on.

Interesting. I had the airbag in my 2017 M4 Comp replaced recently when having a service. The service assistant advised that even though it was not required as part of the recall for my vehicle (based on chassis number), they are doing them as a preventative measure. After reading this post and checking mine out I find out it is the plastic standard airbag that has been fitted. I should have checked it out a bit more carefully after it was done so my fault there. Visited the dealer (Worthingtons) today and they are telling me the standard (plastic clad) ones are what they are being supplied to re fit. When questioning them about the leather one fitted to my car as fitted to the M cars they had no idea about them? Seems a bit weird. They are now 'looking into it' to try and sort it out. I am tempted to ask them to re fit my original one which did not require replacement (as per their information).

See if they have an M car on the showroom floor to see the difference

BMW is definitely providing 2 versions to replace these airbags, it's just a matter of whether your dealer recognizes it

Follow up from my previous post. Just off phone with dealer and correct leather clad airbag now organised for install. Like I said my own fault for not checking properly when other fitted.

Not your fault. I wouldn't have known if domino hadn't mentioned it. Once again a brilliant thread for information.
