The nice thing about this swap is, if you get oem, you know it actually works.
Over in the e9x world, many aftermarket cf driveshafts have been tried and they are all or mostly shit |

if my car didn't have it already, I wouldn't hesitate. All the advantages of CF driveshafts and none of the disadvantages, as you can buy an OEM BMW CF one that actually works!

It’s a no brainer, if possible. Watching this space as it’d be great to have in a relatively affordable F83 I picked up but that doesn’t have it

I'm not so sure there's no disadvantage, I have an idea a lot of the vibration issues on the early cars is from the CF driveshaft. Hence my desire to swap to steel.

I’ve now had 3 M4s. A 2015 F82 (CF driveshaft), 2018 F82 (CF driveshaft), and now 2019 F83 (steel obviously). I can confirm that all vibration was related to the diffential bushings. I’m all in on the CF driveshaft and have had no issues with it after over 8 combined years of use.

Good info on the different updates though, thanks. I'll definitely check into that option.initely Last edited by theweebabySeamus; 10-31-2023 at 05:12 PM.. |

So, if it’s not an available swap just find some other way to mod or tune the car to compensate. If I recall after speaking to a serious f82 drag racer, the steel driveshaft is better equipped to handle the additional power. Having said that, if I wasn’t going to tune, I would presume the carbon fiber driveshaft saves a little weight and causes slightly faster revving. I’m gonna see if the local shop does the swap. If not it’s not the end of the world. As some have already said lighter wheels can help make up for the difference. But, I see tuning in my future.

Found a shop that does it. Not sure it’s worth the trouble or if it could lead to any future issues. Car feels fast with the metal one, but we’ll see what they want for labor. No idea which version OEM CF driveshaft I would need to find on eBay either. There are a bunch on there.

Any concerns when doing this mod? Is there a specific name or serial number for the correct part? |
