Service records

Anyone know a way of obtaining service record on a fa82. I bought the car used 38k on the vehicle. I called the dealer and they would not release the records to me without previous owners consent .

thats BS. they should be able to tell you when it had services done and what was done at each visit. they might not be able to get you the typical print out though because there is personal info about the previous owner on there (address, last 4 on cc, name, payment, etc). you'll just have to jot everything down on a pen and pad.

or call around to a different dealer. if service was done at a BMW dealer i'm pretty sure they are all interconnected.

Technically they are not allowed to release the info due to the fact if they print it out it has the previous owners personal info in the header. They are being lazy cuz the could either convert it into a PDF and delete the owner info or print it and use a sharpie. They are just being lazy.... but being legal.

You can tell them to fuck off and go to another dealer...it is a national data base that any dealer can access or you can just tell them what I just told you and maybe a light bulb will go off

You can get the internal service records for any BMW which will show all services performed by any dealer. I’ve gotten it for all the cars I’ve bought or even looked at from BMW dealers. This will ONLY show services that were done by an authorized BMW dealer, it will not show services from Indy shops.

Are you a customer of that dealer or pay them for any services? If so go somewhere else. If not, you may want to consider becoming a customer first as they are under no obligation to provide those records.

I was able to get the full dealer service from previous owner’s service on my Porsche Cayenne at the dealership. It was single owner all work at dealer. It really helped to focus on the preventative maintenance I needed to invest in with 112k on the odometer. If previous owner did work with Indies, then you will probably not get a good history of the car.

there are two types of recorded vehicle history.
1: warranty repairs which is a nationwide database thru BMW
2: any other repairs not warranty are recorded via the specific dealer database.

carfax is another option for service history but noted repairs are normally vague, not accurate as far as description goes.....

Cars are exempt from HIPAA. But as others have stated, you aren't entitled to the previous owner's identity. The dealer in question is simply being uncooperative.
