strange noise

anybody heard a noise like this. It has happened twice now on my 2018 M4 with 19,000 miles. It occurs when I wake the car up by opening the door or trunk. lasts for about a minute and in located under the hood but I couldn't identify exactly where.

That does not sound right. Do you have any codes? Scan the car with ISTA or BMW OBD2 first, Also MHD F series app with scan car for free if you have the dongle. MHD app also is great at finding hidden codes.

It sounds like a solenoid going on and off, maybe car is trying to prime or turn on something and its not happening on the first try. It should produce a code.

Do you have DCT? If so, when you unlock, the car will prime DCT for startup. Also I believe the LPFP gets primed on unlock.

No codes or messages. 6MT. I have heard the fuel pump prime before but this is much more of a clicking.

It does seem like valvetronic clicking. It should throw a error if its clicking for that long.

Since you have no errors, do Valvetronic limit stop reset in ISTA and could fix the noise before start.

Replacing the shaft is really expensive and since you have no errors its probably fine.

Sounds like the valvetronic. This youtube video is about the same. Still under warranty for 2 more months. Hopefully I can get the dealer to replace it.

Just got back from the dealership. There was only one code and it was CD0487 ZGM: synchronization process for flexRay failed.
No code from valvetronic at all. He thought it might be, but couldn't be sure with no code. Good thing I have over a year of warranty left.
