M4 external temperature wrong/slow?

I've had my M4 for a month and a half now and noticed today that the outdoor temperature shown in the display is wrong and very slow to reach the actual outdoor temp. I havent started the car in 3 days (it's been in the garage) but I just drove somewhere that took 10 minutes to get to and it was pretty much staying around 49-51 degrees and here in ATL is almost 65 right now....by the time I got home it got up to 54 but clearly it's still not right....anyone else come across this?

no, and that is strange.

I've had cars read the exterior temp wrong before, but always too hot (not shaded/protected from car heat enough or not calibrated correctly and over-read temp by a steady 4.5 C)

Other than being mis-calibrated, I'm not sure how the car could read the temperature as being too cold......

Talk to the dealer.

Or demand a recall.

either/or.

Anyone know where the temp sensor is? Could it get blocked by protection film or debris?

My temp works great and is always very accurate and matches the weather display in iDrive.

Well, I am Canadian and we care passionately about temperatures. It is why we always talk about the weather.

ok, that is shit. (I mean we do talk about the weather, but not about the temp thing)

Deposition I was supposed to do was cancelled last minute (lazy ass lawyer on the other side - I had been calling his cowardice (even the time on Tuesday that I would get the email) for a week before it happened).

So I have a bit of a 'free day'

I spent a good part of it playing detective and helping to identify the shit that was behind the 'Valet Drive' of the M4 video (if you haven't, check out where that thread went. Have identified the exact parking garage the guy works for (City Centre in DC - corner of H and 10th), his school, his friends, etc.).

With that work done, I was checking other threads.

Plus I really did have this problem on an old VW, but, as I said, it always read high (which made sense) not low (which doesn't)

I have never trusted the temperature rating automobiles read out. In Texas we get crazy hot. Ive gotten in the car before where it reads 120+. It rarely gets above 100 (at least not in 2014) but you still get crazy readings and jackasses posting online about them.

Im sure Arizona people could share the same stories.

When I was installing my Performance grills I saw what looks like the ambient temp sensor on the drivers side and it's inside the grill to the right.

That's why I was asking about the location of the sensor. On my other BMWs it has been in the front bumper somewhere and down low. That is why it reads high in Texas summers - it is picking up the heat from the road in traffic and 120 may be an accurate temperature for what it is sensing - just not accurate ambient temperature. If you get out on the highway at highway speeds the temp will come down.

If that is where it is, then it should be pretty accurate and not get "tricked" by road temps.

Is it that pointy looking plastic thing on the right side of the right inner grille? If so mine looks normal and in tact....i drove around for another 7-8 minutes and the car went up to 61 degrees which is about what it is....maybe it was just slow today to reach the normal temperature....

I envy you, where I co.e from people don't talk at all.

I just spent 3 hours in the parks with kids and I'd say my temperature went higher the meter told me. Of course the reason might have been a very interesting abortion and racism conversation i was having with a sane person.

With my views of the world I should be driving a Prius.

Both my 335 and X5 took, in my opinion, a really long time for the car to reach the proper temperature if it was getting warmer. I dont know if this was a design element on purpose due to potential icy conditions.

During the winter months, I have a heated garage, say 10-13 Deg cels. when I pull out of the garage at -15 temps, the car almost immediately bings and gives me the snow/ice warning. However when I pull into my heated garage at the office, +15-20 it doesnt warm up that quickly. Ive even ran inside for 20 mins and came back and the temperature only raised by a few degrees.
