I got you

They definitely toned down the intent of CSL. I think it’s for the best given the way F82 GTS was received and misunderstood. Would be cool to see a pseudo GT4 variation as a end of run GTS model.

Say the car is 8 seconds quicker around the Ring... meaning it is 1.14 seconds quicker per 1 min.
We are all too familiar with how tires make up more than a second per 1 min course. So how much better of a car is this really?

When is this graphic from? CSL has definitely has been toned down from "Born for the racetrack". A pseudo GT4 model would be interesting.

Ideally they should offer a "track pack" on regular M4. Consisting of buckets, rear seat delete, adaptive suspension tuning, new dampers/springs, new strut bar.

I have a hunch BMW is just following Porsche's latest development. If they did manage to make the ZF8 shift well, I suspect it's something they took it from what Porsche managed to do with the Cayenne Turbo GT.

But true to CSL models of the past - of which there just two, though - the M4 is again a 'Clubsport' car, not a hardcore toy with very limited ability to be daily driven.

I was expecting a height-adjustable spring kit to be standard, or an optional coilover system with adjustable top mounts since this is aimed at the type of clientele that would appreciate extra adjustability. And they've got a deal with KW as well.

i think i found the car to replace my f80. test drove this 2011 e92 today. 40k miles and dct. wasn't going in with the intention of buying since this car is black and doesn't have edc. Just wanted to get a feel for what the e92 is like again after 3 years with a manual f80. even stock the sound is impressive. no need for a HUD because you can actually hear the engine rpms climb. suspension was stiffer than my lowered f80 but not terrible, the chassis copes well and feels solid. i'm sure with edc it would be a bit better. steering 'feel' was better. DCT was as good as the m2c i drove, and much much better than the lc500 auto.

Great choice. It might not be as fast as the f80. But the e92 has lots of character, great steering, sound. Is that Jerez?

That was BMW « going forward » marketing strategy circa 2018~2019, where they wanted to revive the CSL moniker. See RugbyBro ’s later post.

And here we have it straight from Van Meel in 2017 that the csl would replace gts

Van Meel has returned to M again after Flasch

Any reason you want to replace F80?
I think besides the sound- the F8x cars are way superior in terms of performance, engineering, build quality, cooling, reliability etc.
It’s definitely a different driving experience vs F8x cars and they sound great.

Beautiful car.

Get some lighter 18", thicker sidewall will help with comfort noticeably.

Last of its kind it would seem. ADM and long-term owner storage to the max! And that wing....May need clearance for landing from the tower

OK, so it would be a “touring” version of the GT3RS: Widebody, NA, MT and no aero. Interesting.

They are billing it as the 992's 911R.
