F83 in manual doesn't exist…maybe f83 manual will hold value.
I was using the configurator and realize you cannot get a manual transmission anymore in the new M4 convertible
This got me thinking maybe my M4 F 83 that I just bought in Manuel might actually keep its value a little bit longer

Sometimes I wish that too.... however when I start sitting in traffic I am like "Thank god it's not a manual" and I have a thought that I am not overheating the DCT from all this stop and go (per the manual).

Thing is a manual is the purists type car. However, a vert? Not so much of a purists type car. That is probably the precise reason they have gone that way with G83

Missing the point, manual is no longer about being the fastest.. nor is a convertible, its about enjoying the back road drive (with the top down).
No doubt if I wanted a purest M4 designed for the track, I would have gone with a F82 DCT… hence why the M4 CS/GTS only comes in DCT. No matter who’s behind the wheel, the DCT is faster. I’m willing to accept the slower 6MT and heavier topless M4 to just enjoy the drive. |

I have a manual 18 plate F83 with comp pack and I love it but unfortunately will be parting company very shortly due to a job change. The DCT is better in terms of better efficiency, ability to build-up speed even quicker (where can you actually use this on UK roads?!) but in terms of driver engagement, you can’t beat the manual and IMO, the manual is better than both the E46 M3 (a touch sloppy) and the E9x M3 (a touch notchy).

I own an F83 DCT and I dispute that its " Not so much of a purists type car." There are just as many gt types buying M3 an M4s non-vert as purists who by cabs. I love sports cars and I love cab (plus live where it is sunny year round).
If you wants G83 cab, you are forced to get a comp model and all comp models only com e with an 8 speed auto. Only the base non-comp come with a manual option. BMW knows the market and the market has spoken, manuals are not desirable enough to justify the cost to get them approved for US market.

I had a DCT car from 2016-19 and that was enough for me, but a deal with the wife had me trading my 2016 6spd Vert for a 2018 DCT Vert a month ago and I have regretted everyday since, even though it netted me a 2006 Z4M 6spd. To each his own, but if you love manuals, you will never be happy with DCT.
Does the G83 have DCT? Thought it was an auto slushbox like the F90 M5.

Those that prefer 6 speed in an M car prefer in a coupe or sedan, not so much a convertible. Even if F83 have large numbers of 6 speed produced, it will most likely follow the E93 6 speed pricing compared against the E90 and E92 counterparts.
At the end of the day, you should never base your decision on how the value will hold up. Every car is a depreciating asset. Enjoy it while you can and choose whichever you like the most. |

I don't mind a dct as long as I have one manual at the house...

I too drive a '16 M4 Vert with a manual purchased via Euro Delivery (RIP). I love it and will never get rid of it. With some light Dinan wheels, an Akrapovich exhaust and a CarBahn Stage 1 tune, it is more than fast enough for me.

historically convertible M cars have not been worth anywhere near the coupe/sedan on the used market.
could f83's go up ? possibly but they will always be well behind the coupe and sedan prices. Even M cars with a sunroof take a hit on depreciation because 99% of buyers want a CF roof.
