The adaptive suspension is by design and by definition "adaptive" which means that it is not an "on/off" setting for firmness or comfort and there is no mode that will emulate a static suspension. In all modes the dampers are continuously changing their settings based on data obtained from a variety of sensors.

I ordered it on my M4 but my dealer messed up and left it off. I have it on my e93 M3 and the difference is very subtle. I think it's a worthwhile addition at the price, but don't expect a night and day difference. It's just not there on normal roads. Maybe if the roads were really bad it might be more noticeable...not many pot holes or frost heaves around here.

Don't miss it, don't need it. I'll be putting laps down at Road America next weekend and pretty sure won't care that I don't have it.
I would imagine that the electronics that make it active have increased quite a bit from the E92 days.

Shocks maybe be of same design, but processing power and reaction times I'm sure have gotten faster.

I have had 6 e9xs (two without EDC and four with, two without ZCP and 4 with ZCP - no non-ZCP EDC cars) and I am on my second F8x (F80 with passive and F82 with active).

I didn't see much difference in the e9x and ran Ohlins on 3 of them with EDC coded off and was happy.

On the F8x, I'm much more torn, the passive suspension was decently harsh, somewhere between Sport and Sport Plus on the EDC car. I think there is a much larger difference in the modes vs the e9x but also that Sport Plus is much more useable in the F8x. Sport Plus on the E9x was so stiff that you end up skipping over bumps, especially as the suspension wore - The F8x avoids most of that. I did H&Rs then KW v3 on the passive F80, and won't do either of those on the F82 with EDC - I'm going to give the Swift springs a shot and see where that gets me. I didn't like the H&Rs on the F80 at all, after a few weeks, the car felt bouncy and unsettled and I didn't feel that way, driving a friend's car with EDC and H&Rs. We'll see.

The technology and processing has gotten A LOT better from the E9X days.

I had an 08' M3 with active suspension and the rear still wasn't 100% controlled at all times under certain conditions.

HOWEVER, I just spent an hour in a 2015 M4 with adaptive in the sport+ setting, and it was planted and controlled 100% of the time over much of the same roads and speeds.

I ordered my 2016 with it.

Is it possible? I have 46,000 miles, played with the suspension settings many times, I don't feel any difference.

NO, NOT POSSIBLE, UNLESS SOMETHING IS NOT WORKING.
THE DIFFERENCES ARE VERY SUBTLE, I ONLY REASON I REALLY NOTICE MINE IS WHEN I GO OVER A SPECIFIC ROAD JOINT THAT IS QUITE HARSH. THE 'BUMP' IS SIGNIFICANTLY HARSHER WHEN SPORT+ IS ON. ONE DAY I FORGOT TO PUT MY CAR IN COMFORT MODE AND THEN I NOTICED IT. IN NORMAL DRIVING I THINK IT IS THERE BUT TOUGHER TO DETECT... I PROBABLY HAVE SOME KIND OF SENSORY DEFICIENCY (LOL) BUT I DO NOTICE IT, OTHERS ARE MORE SENSITIVE THAN I AM TO THE CHANGES... SO, PICK A ROAD WITH SOME KIND OF ROUGH SPOT, AND DRIVE OVER IT IN 'COMFORT' UNTIL IT'S FAMILIAR THEN DO THE SAME 'PIECE' OF ROAD IN SPORT +

Holy crap...has everyone fogotten how to internet?

I mean, first we have someone bump a 2.5 year old thread, adding nothing to it, then someone asks a completely vague and unclear question, and finally, the next guy posts in all caps.

Are you all touched in the head?

I used to have a 2004 Volvo v70R, it had 3 settings, the differences were extremely obvious. Of course, the roads here are very smooth but for 2 years i have cycled the 3 settings a hundred times, can't feel any difference. Is a there a way to verify if it is working?

Just to add to this post, I purchased a 2015 without the adaptive suspension, and as I did with all previous M3’s I’ve owned, I had the car lowered with sport springs.
I recently traded in the M3 for a CPO M4 with adaptive suspension, and I really like the difference. The only drawback is that lowering it costs subtantially more because of this option on the car.

Just a heads up.

If the roads are very smooth, it will be difficult to detect if it's working or not. Ideally a road with some unevenness that makes the car pitch or roll abruptly.

Shocks only work during the transients of cornering, going into an out of a corner. So if you're expecting to feel a difference on a highway on ramp, you will be disappointed. The quicker the car needs to change direction, the more important the damper is and the bigger difference you'll feel between settings.

Something like an auto-x or slalom will make the differences obvious, or changing lanes on the high way a bit more abruptly than normal to get the body to roll once during the initial steer into the other lane, then make a distinct, quick steering input to straight again once you're in that lane and feel the body roll return to flat. You should feel the difference there as well.

I will say that it's quite unlikely that the system isn't working. Most faults that are likely to occur will throw an error light. If you couldn't feel the difference on bad roads, or if the car was performing poorly overall, I might think otherwise, but if you have good roads where you live an adaptive suspension is less important.

I’m wondering when I was looking to buy a used f80 m3 I couldn’t find any with adaptive suspension just m performance suspension.im curious if it’s only few 1000$ dollars extra why people didnt get it.it seems like something good to have..I just gave up and found an m3 I really liked and bought it but ofcourse it doesn’t have adaptive suspension.i feel my ride is more stiff than x5m package I had but yet again it is suppose to be sporty not luxury car and I always remember bmws being more stiff on road .i drove m3,m5 was all same feeling.i don’t mind stiff feeling altho can be abit annoying if roads are too bumpy but u get used to it..I guess my question is why most ppl didn’t get it when they ordered their m3’s from dealership.🤔 I’m annoyed that I couldnt find any used f80 with adaptive suspension and looks like u can’t change it afterwards .is it such a big deal?everyone keeps saying it’s a must to have and blah blah 😒
