If the original m3 E30 came only as a coupe and convertible, why is the 4 door being called m3 and the 2 door m4?

Very nice renders, although it's still a bit early to tell. We all know that BMW really entered the performance game because of the M3. This is the show horse and their brand recognition as far as I see it, BMW won't disappoint consumers. I wasn't sure about all the renders and spy pics with the camo for the current F10 M5 and F12 M6, and both of those cars look absolutely stunning. I had the privilege of driving the F13 M6 vert, and it was mind blowing. I own a 335is, and having driven a tubro engineered motor, I for one think that this new M3 is going to be absolutely intoxicating.

wow I was honestly really worried that the new M cars would turn out to look really bad, but that is unbelievably gorgeous. Dear lord. I'll take one in Sakhir Orange please. The elements fit together so well.

I don't think the renderings are accurate. I expect the new M3 and M4 to share the front end as was the case with E90/E92 M3 and have different front end to F30. It is quite clear from the spy pics that the new M3/M4 grille is different to the F30 and I expect the headlights to differ too - among other things.

of course they arent accurate, no one knows what they will look like. but thats the reason behind renders. just to give people alittle hint of what it could look like with wider fenders and an M style kit. Get people excited for the real deal.

If the M3 looks anything like the sedan, that would be all win. As for the M4, I REALLY hope it's more M6 than the F30 look. I hope BMW doesn't follow Mercedes where the coupe looks like the sedan minus 2 doors. The E92 did a very good job in extending the 3-Series but different than the E90.

I am so looking forward to the all new M4 if that is what the coupe will be called. I hope they keep the hood bulge and intake inlets on the hood. Also, hope it has M6 like carbon fiber roof and super wide rear fenders.

^^^I'm not convinced at all since the front grill of this white rendering was not made to make it look like the camo car (See below).^^^

The grill above does not look like this at all:
