I signed up as well, but pretty unhappy with the tire selection.

The Michelin X-Ice is junk compared to the Blizzak for those of us in the snow belt. They really aren't close.

Here are my calcs (includes wheel/tire/tpms/shipping/mount/balance):

Group Buy w/X-Ice $1866
X-Ice package w/o Group buy $2340

Approx 20% discount all in.

Blizzaks w/o Group buy $2408
Hakkapeliitta w/o Group buy $2594

The price is definitely great. But I was already prepared to get Apex wrapped in Haks prior to hearing about the group buy.

Hmmmmm, I'm torn....

Which blizzaks are you referring to, they did include the blizzak LM001 in the group buy which is the new one this year replacing the LM32s

i'm no tire expert but, tire rack and many other places that i have seen give the x-ice a very good rating.

Details are on the group buy website.
In the US we get free shipping. In Canada you get discounted shipping, flat fee of 100.

Is the pricing on the feeler truly contingent on hitting 30 orders? We only had 26 interested parties on the first post...

Yes it is.

As of this post, there are 24 days for people to discover this deal. 36 people signed the survey. 31 of those were F8X M3 owners.

On Monday and Tuesday the offer will open up to non F8X M3 owners via the other forums (that's why there are other wheel and tire sizes as options).

Getting to 30 will be easy.

Blizzak WS80. When I signed up there was only one tire, the X, in the drop down menu. The LM line is a performance snow. I need/want a studless snow.

We'll see what happens. Anyone here have experience with the Xice ON snow and Ice? Maybe its better now. Though the review on Tire Rack says otherwise. Yes, it comes in 2nd, but there is a HUUUUGE gap between it and the Blizzak.

Hakkapellitas or BS WS-80 would be great. I was hoping for WS-80 atleast.

Same here. X ice doesn't seem too far behind, but I would prefer either of those two tires first.

What are you basing that off of? I and others happily went with the x-ice last winter and I haven't see anyone on here complaining about the tire. I've personally driven though 6 inches of unplowed snow without issues, including doing a 3 point turn at the end of my driveway. I've also driven on packed snow/slush/ice without issues. I think it's a great tire.

I think that it doesn't get any more objective than the tire rack test unless someone can set up a better side by side test with the same variables (which I doubt). I think I'll be content with the Michelin X-Ice. According to the tests it also has good dry handling characteristics. I'm glad you gave it a good review despite you living in NH. I think and I hope Michelin XICE will suffice here.

We need 8 more people. Come on guys ! We can do it !

I've had the Xice and whatever Pirelli's studless snow was. Again, I'm talking ice and snow only, not all around performance. The Xice and Pirelli were no better than the all season that came on the car (RSX). Now, its been quite a while, so things could have changed. But Tire Racks review shows they aren't in the same league on ice/snow.

I used both the Xice and the Pirelli for one winter season....and I'm trying to remember what I did with them, and can't. Which means they were likely tossed in the trash...or used for smokey burnouts....Its been the WS ever since. The WS lasts 5-6 seasons. Shit, I've got a set in my garage right now...they outlasted the car!

I had my RSX for 13 winters. I used the OEM Michelins the first winter. Xice the 2nd, Pirelli the 3rd, and then 2 sets of Blizzaks. The first set of Blizzaks lasted 6 seasons. The 2nd set went thru 4, and I had planned to squeeze a 5th.

The cost amortized over 5 or 6 years is nothing. Why everybody doesn't do it is beyond me.

I will say that since I last purchased snow tires my commute has gone from around an hour to about 6 minutes. So if X is the only option....I'm probably on board. Worst case scenario: I hate them and use the $500 I saved on the group buy to get the Haka's I really wanted!

Road and Track:

WS80 didn't rank high for some reason. They were disappointed.

http://www.caranddriver.com/features...old-war-page-2

Consumer reports last year had xice3 and the Nokian R2 as tied (although they gave the win to the xice3)

Interesting - I read the above 2 earlier last year and had planned to get the R2s or Xice3s as a result. It seemed the the Blizzaks had lost some of their earlier success or Michelin got serious.
