strut damage from kw has install

my independent shop was installing kw has adjustable spring kit on my 2016 m4 with edc this morning, and apparently the pressure point on the bottom of one of the struts collapsed where the press contacts the strut while the collar is being pressed on. they were using all the correct bmw factory tools and following the KW instructions.

has this happened to anyone else during install?

They were not using the correct tools for this install as the correct tool does not allow that portion of the strut to make contact with anything.

i spoke with KW and they confirmed that the instructions specify not to press at this point. looks like the installer missed that. i should have read through the instructions myself before bringing it all in!

Ideal world. Have the indi provide cash settlement for two new dampers and labour. Take this cash buy some mid range coilovers like mperformance, KW's or ohlins and then take it somewhere else to fit after you have read the instructions.

That didn't collapse. They crushed it.

The shop owes you a strut.

Gives you an excuse to do it right and get coils.

Go that route and you’ll thank them for breaking the strut.
