Dash camera…the good and the bad…and who has them?
Bought myself a Nextbase camera and wanted to install the hardwire option straight onto the fuse board so it’s neat and records while parking, etc.
Anyone done the same thing? How easy or difficult was it and how to get the wire to the fuse board in the engine bay? Or is there any in the boot? Thanks in advance |

It's capacitor based instead of battery based which helps with the LA heat when I park my car outside. I didn't hardwire it as I don't like to mess with electrical wiring.

I've used Nextbase for my cars in the last 10 years or so. They've served me well so I haven't seriously thought of replacing them. There's a small rechargeable battery in them (to keep the settings when the car is off), and that is the only thing that needs replacing after a few years of use.
Mine are not hardwired. |

I have an Anker roav c1 which I route the wire slightly under the roof lining, down the pillar and then down and into the power. Cables practically invisible and it won't draw power when the car is off, and has a parking mode
Think decent brand dashcams are now each very similar - had dashcams for 10 years now and not hardwired one once |

I have an Anker branded one that is wired to cigarette socket. Was working 3 years ago when my 2015 F80 was destroyed by an uninsured motorist turning left from opposite direction curb lane at night. While video was not needed (cop at intersection witnessed whole thing), video is a reassuring thing to have. One caveat, however, is that it can work both ways. If you record yourself behaving badly, it could be used as evidence against you (not a personal experience, BTW- just sayin').

I have a 70mai m300 in my work car. It's a huge turd and wouldn't recommend it to anyone. It doesn't record all the time. It's voice activated only, and it came with no 'voice instructions'. Anytime someone on the radio mutters Camera, Caption, Capital, or any other C words, it blasts "CAPTURE COMPLETE", or "EMERGENCY RECORDING ACTIVATED". I have no doubt that if I ever needed the footage, it wouldn't have recorded it.

I'm running a Blackvue in my M4, Z4, and X3. In the M4 I ran the wiring to the fuse panel in the trunk and plugged it in with add-a-fuse adapters.
The following fuses are constant 12V: 100, 103, 104, 106-109, 112-114, 116, 117, 120, 123, 149, 150, 160, & 161 The following fuses are on AND off with ignition: 143-148, & 154 The remaining fuses are on with ignition and then remain on for ~10 min after the ignition is turned off, and then turn off. Fuses 109, 112 & 125 are blank, meaning that there is no fuse installed in the spot Fuses 112-117, and 136-142, do not have sockets installed- |
