BMS Delivering an S55 Blowoff Valve Kit

I was on the Facebook "F80 M3 / M4 Enthusiasts"group when I saw a new post from Payam Harouni from Burger Motorsports releasing a blowoff valve kit for our cars. If this isn't new news I apologize and missed the previous threads, I searched and didn't see any... I guess my question is why? Other than the fun sound why do it, is there a performance gain?

I know some guys kind of like the whoosh sound and that's cool if that's all it's for, but I'd love to know what the smart folks know and think.

Also if someone has pictures of the kit and could explain how it would work/install it (following the Facebook thread apparently it will attach below the J-Pipe) would be interesting information and probably make for some even more interesting conversation.

Here is the link to the video of it from in the cab:

Interesting. I'd assume it'll do nothing for performance, just sound.

I've seen it, you guys will like it.

For those who have JB4 the JB4 runs it. For flash only guys they have a little controller box you add on to run it.

If I'm incorrect let me know, but i thought the s55 motor doesn't vent the excess boost pressure it instead scavenges it in a form of antilag. If thats the case wouldn't this negatively affect it? Or is turbo response the same?

At least on the VW Gti, the aftermarket BOV does nothing for performance and actually reduces it. It's basically for fun.

Sounds like a kid put a blow off valve on an automatic Passat. So horrible this is that time you really think if the manufacturer knew it would help they would have done it. I'm a young guy and all about mods but I hope this doesn't blow up and become something.

Ya, I am interested in the "why" too. When I emailed with BMS today wanting to know more, they said they were making 100 units, so they must think they have a good business case. I asked for a price, but they didn't pass that. They say the J-pipe is a two bung pipe. I am not sure it's an item for me, kind of like Thewum3 says. But it leaves me curious.

Its for larger turbos since the OEM "BOV function" doesn't vent enough air to prevent surge in some cases. This BOV does. Single turbo S55 also needs it

I installed one on my car.

ooo this will be fun. I'm a sucker for some sweet BOV sounds. Running cone intakes now (yes, agreed no performance gains) and the noises it makes when going off throttle are glorious.

What turbos do you have on your car now? i see two air filters so i'm assuming it's still a twin turbo setup.

Reminds me of the JDM 90s!

Pretty obvious that this will divide people the same way the burble tunes do. Love it or hate it lol

I was running Kratos turbos at that time.

Funny you should say that. I am one of those guys who turned the burbles off but wouldn't mind trying the woooosh sound. It's the JDM in me. Not sure I'll like it, but I'll probably try it out just for fun.

Same thing with the T51r mod when on a ST. One of my buddies has it and likes the jet sound, but I prefer it w/o. I do run the same BOV Chet has, so there’s some whistle from that. Almost reminds me of a louder intake sound

That's what I was thinking about the intake sound. I have the enclosed Eventuri intake on mine, I don't get to hear much.

Two questions on this mod:

1) don't the turbo wastegates provide enough release of pre-throttle pressure when needed, even at 30-40PSI? Bigger turbos seem to have bigger wastegate holes.

2) does the BOV pressure release interfere with the DME interaction on the turbo wastegates, or does the BOV only engage along with wastegate opening?

Any install info? Do you just swap the stock J-pipe?
