Exhaust cleaning?

Has anyone here attempted to clean their entire exhaust system to make it look cleaner and crisper? If so what did you use?

You talking about outside appearance? Try some WD-40 and steel wool

That will scratch it everywhere... just don't do that on or near the tips or visible pieces.

There are some bearings in the mufflers, too. Grease them.

A little bit of everything to be honest, the midpipe mainly. It's turning bronze, I just want to give it a cleaner look.

So no steel wool? What do you recommend? I've been reading around and people say use nevr dull along with a lot of elbow grease; or as Grindkiezer said use steel wool (i'm assuming 000 grade). Thanks for the advice, I don't have any experience with this.

The exhaust is turning bronze because of heat. You are fighting a loosing battle. Also, nobody will ever see the midpipes.

Never Dull is great for cleaning exhaust tips, but nothing will keep them from getting dirty again. The funny thing about never dull is if you don't do a super job of removing it, the sheen of the stuff will immediately cast a dull haze on the metal as soon as you get it hot, e.g. turn on the car.

So, I never dull the tips maybe every month or so, and then clean up with a little qd spray. Otherwise, just leave the exhaust alone.

My buddy used Mothers metal polish on his GTR and it removed the soot from his exhaust tips, not sure about a bronzing midpipe though.

Got it, I think I'll try that out! Do you just wipe it down with microfiber cloth?

He used steel wool to get the majority of it off and then finished up with a microfiber applicator pad

I used metal polish with a polisher and the brown coloring came off. I tried with hand but It didn't come off. I was selling my exhaust with 15k miles and after polishing it looked brand new. This works for stainless steel.
