Is M steering feel better than non-M steering feel?
Hi guys. I have owned a few BMWs - my last one was an E92 328i and current one is an F22 228i. I don't really need M power - this is why I'm sticking with non-M cars. But, like most people, I'm really missing hydraulic steering. I really hate the electric motor/servo (whatever the hell it is). It has absolutely no feel or feedback.
My question is: Is steering mechanism in M cars like M2, M3, M4 any different than non-M? I know they are all electric nowadays, but has BMW made any effort to make M steering more responsive and accurate than non-M ones? I thought asked your opinion before going to the dealership, waste an hour on a test drive, and then get bombarded with salesmen messages for a month. Thanks |

Yes. My wife used to drive a 228i. Even with the Track Handling Package, the steering was not nearly as good as my M3.

Had a F30 335i with M-Sport / adaptive suspension. I liked the car overall, however, coming from an civic E46 325i, steering and suspension on the F30 were a huge disappointment. Just did not feel like a BMW to me. My F80 is back on par with what I expect in feel and handling from a BMW, no complaints now at all.
We all know that F30 marked BMW simply not trying to market to the true enthusiast anymore and instead looking to expand further into the luxury market and it was clear to me that they are basically saying if you want that old feel, buy an M. My experience in jumping from my optioned F30 to an F80 confirmed this. And I now also have an E46 325i winter/beater car to drive again for comparison. The old civic E46 is much closer to the F80 in feel and handling then my fully optioned "M-Sport" F30.
