DIY How to perform iSTEP UPDATES on NBTEVO (for enabling fullscreen CarPlay)

In order to enable fullscreen CarPlay via a 3rd party .BIN solution, you need to be running on [18-07-549 / NBTevo_O] or greater. For reference, my MY2018 F80 was running [iSTEP 17-07-507 / NBTEvo_L].

This PDF covers the entire process of how to update your NBTevo headunit. Fully documented with photos, screenshots and even a process log so you can follow step by step. This same guide can technically be used to update any module in your car --as always, do your research as your conditions may differ than mine. You assume all responsibility and risk. This guide is for educational purposes only.

Please PM me if you have any feedback.

Thanks for sharing this. I'm looking at buying the full screen patch by itself, which requires CarPlay to be installed and activated. I was hoping that flashing HU_NBT2 wouldn't require reactivating CarPlay, but I guess that's not the case. Does CarPlay need to be reinstalled or reactivated after flashing and, if so, how do you do that (where would I get the .bin file needed)?

Took about 45 min. If you check the log at the end of my document, it gives you a full timeline as to how long each section takes.

Also, hit up wibbles for fullscreen activation with the latest istep.

DO NOT DO IT !!!! Updated my 2018 M3 NBTevo to latest software (just the NBTevo was updated) then patched fullscreen carplay. iDrive unit keeps rebooting now 1-3 times a day. Its not worth it .....

I've done this procedure on two different 2018 M3, including a M3 CS and I have not experienced any kind of rebooting, bugs, lags or glitches of any kind.

Same here; no issues whatsoever. I flashed NBT to version P (November 2018 software version) and patched CarPlay via Enet cable/internet.

Do you need to use ISTA to clear any errors or is ESYS all that's needed?

I used ISTA to clear all errors, both before and after flashing (so I could tell which errors were specific to NBT flash). Note that flashing takes about 45 minutes, so make sure to use a power supply to avoid draining your battery.

The full-screen patch takes about 6 minutes and requires a strong internet signal. Assuming you'll be using your wired port for connecting to the car, you'll need a strong wireless internet connection.

You need to have OABR(Ethernet to Gateway) connected.

just wanted to throw it out there, i have found that to not be overly critical. if you calculate everything and the hwel is black it will update without issue. I tested mine and found a handfull of istep shipment versions that all resulte din hwel being black. its possible there were no nbt evo updates through those various istep shipment builds, or perhaps it isnt that sensitive. Either way my evo came from a 2019 car, every istep shipment variation i tried from late 2018 had the same result.

Hi all

I have esys 3.30.1 with v.4.24.31_PSdZData_Lite.rar
This is what i use for Coding.

Now i want to do the iStep for my NBTevo ID4 to ID6 and to install carplay.

i saw that there are 2 versions of FULL PSdZData:
For i.e:

v.4.23.12_PSdZData_Full and v.63.3_PSdZData_Full

What are the diferences between the 2? which one to use for the flashing from id4 to id6?

do anyone have a guide to do this?

Thanks!

They are different versions.
After flash you would need to get Full FSC PACK to activate all features as well as proper coding.

Thanks

Is it possible to flash the NBTevo with the engine running? Or does the car have to be in run mode and connected to a power supply?

OK, thanks, and is it possible to hook up the car using jump leads to another one that's running, and use the second car as a power supply?
