Rear side bumper vertical "crease"?
When the car got dirty for the first time, I noticed that in certain lighting there is a noticeable line or crease due to ever so slight change in geometry on the rear lower side bumper. The line is on both sides in the same place. Does everyone have this and is it as noticeable as mine? Here's a pic:

just went to look on mine (an F80). no vertical crease. that would be a weird place for a character line anyway since there already are two horizontal creases. can you feel the crease?

I can’t feel it, but it’s definitely caused by the physical shape of the bumper cover. If I vary the light angle from the rear of the car, the shadow cast changes a bit. I’ll post some more pics Of the different lighting. The weird thing is that it’s on both sides in the same spot, with the same amount of slight angle relief. Also, it clearly starts where the the top of top horizontal line ends, or rather blends into side. But it’s strange, seems like a QC issue maybe, which really sucks if true because I doubt bmw na will replace this under warranty.

One of my friend's and my M3 both have that. Our cars were built in May June 2018. I had a 2016 model and it wasn't as obvious on that car. I know that today because my friend bought my old car. The reason for that line is they must have had a mold repair that makes the bumper and now there is a witness line there

Mine has this. I never noticed it on my 2016. But on my 2018 the other day I thought there was a crease walking out to my car - I double checked and it is identical on both sides. It also exists on both the LRG and SMB CS' I've seen.
It is hardly visible unless you catch it from the right angle and the right lighting. Here are two pics of the LRG. Last edited by cwhands; 09-17-2018 at 08:59 AM.. |

This would explain it for sure and seems to be what has probably happened. Especially since older car owners report that they don't see it. maybe a new mold or repaired mold was used starting for 2018 since it seems like all those reporting it have '18 cars. |

No Crease, but Maybe a Missing Clip
I have no crease in my F80 rear quarter, but the left side panel in the same place has an internal clip missing (I presume), the panel moves back and forth quite a bit when its pushed on in comparison to the opposite side that does not move. I haven't been bothered enough by it to pull apart and look or say anything to the dealer. Maybe next time, I will ask to see if there is anything to be done.

Was thinking similar. Perhaps not enough urethane/plastic in that area of the mold?

July 2018 production. F80.
I have the vertical crease too but they seem far less obvious than in your pics. Wouldn't have noticed had you not posted, now I can't unsee it. Only saw it with a flashlight... very subtle, but it's there... |

I was more worried that the dealer had tried to cover up damage or something. Now that I know it's coming out of the factory, it actually doesn't bother me. |
