6-speed short shift kit options

Hi Guys,

Looking at the various short shift kit options:
-Turner Motorsports
-UUC
-Rogue Engineering
-Auto solutions

I know alot of people like the Auto solutions one but I'm not looking to get under the car and do an elaborate install. It looks like the Turner one you can do it from inside the car.

Anyone have the turner one installed and can comment or even the UUC or Rogue one?

Thanks,
Steve

Every shifter will require you to get under the car to install. The turner is a bit easier among others because its only the shifter lever and bearing the rod stays the same underneath. The Auto solution will require you to replace both the lever and the rod and is a bit trickier to install but not over the top. Ive gotten it down to probably 1-1.5 hrs to install or remove the shifter from this car.

Ive always been a proponent of the CAE shifter. I have it and, like you'll hear from many others who installed it, its the best mod I've done to the car.

Everyone who drives it is also amazed...You're in Irvine, if you're ever up in WLA, you can check it out.

I have heard that too, but the only reason I didn't get it is because of the need to cut the cupholder and interior trim.

Its really not bad. I cut my original and patched it up so I could use both cup holders fine. I also bought a used cup holder on ebay for like $60 just in case I go back to stock.

Like someone else said, any short shift kit you buy will require working from underneath the car to disconnect the shift lever from the linkage. I installed the AS kit in mine, it took me a while but it was worth it.

The nice thing about AS is that Ron will customize the shifter to exactly what you want. The downside is that there is a 2-3 month lead time on AS kits since each one is custom.

Now you guys got me thinking about Auto Solutions. I might as well give it a go; I've tried everything else.

Which configuration did you go with? I'm thinking 25% reduction in throw, oem position/height and 80a grade bushing.

Per Ronald:
A shorter throw that is positive will be reached with a 25% shifter. dropping the height 10 mm will increase that ratio from 25% to close to 30% which in my opinion is plenty short.
(+ 95A bushing) sounds like a great place for me to finalize.

25% reduction - 10mm drop - 95A - I've added the non light up mperformance shifter and that has dropped height even further.

This is all positive and love my setup.

Autosolutions for sure out of the list you provided

The CAE shifter is fine, but not for a street driven car unless you like a lot of attention

Thanks. Does the 95a make gear changes loud?

IMO, No.

But I am catless and hear more of that than the shifter.

Get the 80A+ if additional noise is an issue for you.

I welcome all the noises so thats why I chose it.

Auto Solutions, I got the 25% reduction with the 80a bushing.

I also added the Rogue rear transmission mounts.

My Autosolutions kit is 15% reduction, stock height & position, OEM bushings and new OEM tranny mounts. I wanted to eliminate the slop, shorten throws by a small amount and minimize NVH so I went with stock bushings.

After doing the installation, I have to believe my throws were reduced by more than 15%. Maybe 15% is the amount he's shifting the pivot ball up on the lever which magnifies the throw reduction, I don't know but I feel like it was more than 15% reduced.

Either way, I'm really happy with it.

Question:
I want to get rid of the rubbery feel of the shifter. I want it to be more mechanical, similar to my 981cS.
Any idea what would be the upgrade to make the oem shifter feel more mechanical? I don’t mind the throw or height…I just want it to click in place and not feel spongy.

Thanks!!

Don't know if Autosolution bushings work with the stock shifter or not, but if you get the 80a (medium) bushing, it would alleviate the mush you're talking about. It clicks right into each gear.

I have the IRP chassis mounted shifter, probably the best mod I have done to the car as far as feel is concerned, I'm not a fan of short shift kits, the IRP shifter was the shortest throws out of anything I've driven, CAE and RTD don't even come close.

Just installed my Auto Solutions shifter and Raceseng 500g knob today. Feels absolutely perfect. Very precise but no notchiness. Absolutely no rubbery feeling.

I didn't install the supplied bushings because I didn't feel like dealing with it after getting my ass kicked for two hours trying to install the carrier screws, and then realizing that I would have to take those screws right back out and remove the carrier to replace the bushings. It was a rough day.

I can confirm that their carrier bushings will work with the stock shifter, but the big monoball and socket on the AS shift lever are not transferable to the stock lever as far as I can tell.

Tommy, when are you looking to do this?

I just ordered mine, and was told there are 103 people ahead of me. Estimated October delivery.

After speaking with Ronald, we agreed on the following:
