Opinion on buying out my lease

Hey guys. I don’t post here often but stalk the form daily.

My lease is up in December and I’m struggling On if i should buy out my lease.

‘18 F80/M3
Tanzanite Blue/black leather
6 speed
Competition package
All options except for full leather (which I wish I had)
Current mileage 27k

No dings or accidents
No mods

Buyout price is $46,120 plus Illinois sales tax which is another $3500.

I think I’ll like the G80 but I’m thinking I may want to wait a couple years before pulling the trigger.

Any opinions?

Do you find that you still get a thrill driving it? Or are you getting slightly bored with it?

Btw i did not get a discount offer on my payoff quote yet.

And to answer your question, I still love driving it, I have a 3&5 year old so being to comfortable have my kids with me is great. The only other car i would consider is a Porsche but I’m not there yet financially. I’m also not ready to switch to an auto so I either keep my f80 or switch to the g80. I’m leaning towards keeping the f80.

I may wait a couple months to see if i get that bmw discount on my payoff.

Sounds like you answered your own question! If you get the BMW discount on your payoff sounds like a no brainer.

I don't think you'll get a discount because the payoff is well below market value. Near me in NY, a bmw dealer would list this for like 53+. Maybe give it a CPO (nothing but a warranty) and make it 57 lol.

I'd keep it, especially because it's a tanzanite loaded 6 speed.

I would totally do it, you broke that car in my friend. Knowing it's history alone is worth the money and piece of mind.

Thanks guys. I think it’s a fair price also. But still going to hold out Incase I get the discount. When I leased the car I did 15k a year but I ended up switching jobs, my new job is much closer and I travel a lot. I would feel stupid turning it in with 15k miles left to burn.

I'm in similar situation, but I have 10 more months left to decide. If BMW offers me discount I'll keep mine for sure. How many months do you have left? Assuming the F80 is not your DD?

FYI, someone in another thread said discount / incentive did not appear until 120 days before lease expiration.

I'm curious of how one can get discount / incentive buying out a lease? I could be wrong but my understanding is that lease buy out is based on residual value, which is based on a lease contract so you can't ask for discount?

Yes buyout is based on a residual but if BMW decides it doesn’t want a bunch of leased vehicles back, they can always sweeten the deal.

Buy out your lease and wait a couple of years for the G80 to come down in price and to get updates and bugs worked out. I bought out my lease, without any discount from BMW, on my 2015 and don't regret it at all. It's dialed in how I like it and has been very reliable. Just got my crank hub fixed so I plan to keep it for at least another 3 yrs. Great to have no car payment!

You should be getting a $5500 payoff discount at 120 days before lease maturity. Check your payoff quote on BMWFS when that happens. I Just sold my ‘18 with 33k miles for $48k. Check your state’s rules regarding reselling. In CA, you don’t pay sales tax on payoff if you resell the car within 10 days.

Nobody can tell you what you want, but if it were me?

I would wait on the G80 until at least the LCI. If you have no collision damage on the current car, it's been worry-free, and you love it, search for a good buyout deal (best about 120 days before maturity), and buy it out. You likely won't get a stellar deal, but you shouldn't be taking a bath either. Other option is to go on swapalease and find something there that lasts a bit longer so you have time to make a decision

I am in the same boat.
My lease is up in end of November, when I check 1-2 weeks ago I do see the $5.5K discount
My buyout price was $46.4K, now I do see the $5.5K discount (my buyout now is $42.X since I still have couple months payment).

Current mileage for me is 34K (also had 15K/yr lease) and I have a comp package with DCT, MSRP was about $80K

For me, I am still debating...

Well you should decide whether to buy to keep or buy to sell. Definitely don’t just return it and get dinged with the $350 lease dispo fee. Like I mentioned I was able to sell mine for $48k with same miles. I think you should be able to get at least that if not more from a private buyer. If you buy to keep you’re getting a good deal, basically free extended warranty if you decide to buy it.

Where can I find out details about this "buyout discount" people are talking about...

My lease is up in March, I'm on target to hit my mileage accordingly to the plan usage... but does BMW post info about this discount or do I have to login to the portal to see something?
