Pretty poor for somebody who actually graduated from a Transportation Design program. Notice he didn't even use a BMW image, just one of those crappy online renders that still got the shape of the grille wrong. Looks no better than the real thing..all I see is that massive flat horizontal surface bisecting the fascia. I'll take the work of BMW designers over somebody who tricks out cars for a living and can't even tell the difference between a fan image and the real deal. There are exceptions but I'd generally argue that BMW and their designers know exactly what they're doing. Nobody will give a sh!t about the size of the grille in a year once they get used to the language. Happened with Audi, happened with Lexus, happened with Bangle and will happen here.

His design isn’t any better, even with his redesign he incorporates the entire size of that huge grill, even with the separation across the middle section, it doesn’t work.
You have to completely get rid of the bottom section of the grill entirely and work on a better looking redesign or just the top section. Last edited by Freak1c; 11-21-2020 at 04:31 PM.. |

This is just reconfirming that redesigning this grill makes the car looks even worse. There's no hope for this design. Every render I've seen it looks even uglier and cheaper looking.

The design is better since the goal wasn't to completely reshape the kidneys, but rather break up the huge teeth that run north to south. I get where he was going, and it looks better, but the smaller, re-shaped grille renderings I think are the best.

3 years from now everyone will be used to it but it will be cool to keep hating on it in the enthusiast community.
BMW has been pissing off the enthusiasts and fans since gas was dinasouruses: bangle butt, run flats, no dipstick, electric steering, long maintenance schedules, turbos, SUV Ms, AWD Ms, higher weight, lack of soul, less direct and more insulated, lack of steering feel, less fun, too rough of ride, sounds terrible, gas mileage sucks (esp. on the S85), V8 in an M3, no parking brake lever, looks worse than last one, no CSL in the US (why do they hate America), US spec less power (E36), grille too big, grille even bigger... etc etc Many BMWs of the past got a ton of hate for their looks. Even the holy E46 had to grow on me. They never had the best looks (Audi) or the best ride (MB) or the best driving experience (Porsche). They do a great job at being best overall but rarely the best at anything. And they love bringing something new to the philosophy which of course will turn off existing fans. |

Umm no - remember the 911 996gen? Thats the future for G8x Bangle butt disappeared pretty fast and was toned down right away at LCI. At least that 7er was ground breaking car with all the tech and revolutionary iDrive. Not same for new G8x...... |
