95ron in a 98ron tune (BM3)
Hi,
I’ve been running stage BM3 stage 2 OTS 98 on my 2015 BMW M4 for over a year now fine, I recently half filled the tank with 95ron standard fuel mistakenly. After starting the car and moving it 5 foot from the petrol pumps the ‘drivetrain malfunction’ error appeared for 5 seconds then vanished, It did it a couple more times during that day. I have never had this error before I filled with the lower RON fuel so I assume its directly linked? I got home and remapped to the same map but 95ron version, did 50-60 miles all ok.. then the ‘drivetrain malfunction’ error came up 3 times and vanished all in the space of about 15 minutes today.. Still running 95ron map with a tank of petrol being half 99ron and half 95ron currently. It's happening when car is being driven lightly not hard. The codes are in the DME are: 20A203 - No description available 20A503 - No description available Car drives fine except for these 5 second blips.. Do you have any idea’s? Thanks |

You won't get a check engine light as soon as you turn on the car
The car should drive fine with either fuel quality, and you'll only have problems when you push the car aggressively. The CEL you got must be a coincidence

I got those same codes when I was driving normally, but they have gone and haven't returned since I cleared them. I don't know if i should replace my turbo coolant pump.
20A203- Auxiliary coolant pump for charge air cooler: Signal implausible 20A503- Turbocharger coolant pump: Signal implausible

Agree it was likely coincidence on the gas fill up. Check to make sure the reservoir for the TMIC isn't empty. It could have leaked and caused the pump to run dry and fail.

It was my turbo coolant pump. I replaced it. It shorted out.
