Curious if anyone has firsthand knowledge or what you guys think?
It's been 13months since I added our X5M to my M3 garage, and I'm getting the itch to unload the wifey's X5M. I'm getting bored with the SUV craze, but the Mrs. still wants utility and a hatch. So I decided today to look at an Audi RS5 Sportback. In person, the car looks so much better than in pics, and I was impressed with the test drive. I would prefer another color than silver, but they are offering 10% off-probably bc of the color, and the damn car has been sitting on the lot since January!!! However, I still need more off and/or more on my X5M trade-it's all a shell game! But honestly, I'm getting sick of the crazy new car depreciation that results. Of course the Audi guy is going to tell me RS hold their values more. What I really need to do is start buying CPO cars!! This is getting old, and me always wanting what I don't have! After Audi today, I test drove a Tesla Model 3 Performance and that thing, as we all know, is just wicked fast! Loved the acceleration and handling, but the fit/finish and sparse interior makes it hard for me to buy one.

Pretty sure all Audi's depreciate as badly as BMW and Mercedes. Going out on a limb and saying the only cars in the sub-exotic price range that hold value are Porsche GT cars.

Hard to say. Generally, the used RS cars I see are more expensive than their M counterparts. But I think they are also more expensive new so not sure how the depreciation % compares. I certainly don't think it's any worse though.

No they don't. They depreciate just as hard as BMW M cars. In fact, M cars hold slightly better if you look at the numbers, it's just that there are far more M cars on the road compared to Audi RS cars. Since there are far more M cars on the road, the number curves are more, it might seem RS cars holds better but that is only because how little of them are on the street.
Even Porsche GT cars have been losing value as of late. Especially the 991.1s due to the engine replacement. P.S. The reason why they are saying that is because they are trying to get you to buy one. RS5 do not sell very well sadly, I did enough research lately (driven an Nardo RS5 Sportback myself) and while I loved the car as well, the price concerns me. You said it yourself, the car has sat there since January. In my area, there are 2018 cars that still sat until just a month ago when I visited the dealership. P.P.S. Just as a comparison. A some what used Porsche 991.1 GT3, 7k ish miles, was around 110k CPO. Compared to a 90k RS5, why not just get the 20k and get into an used GT3 instead?

Build date was Sept 2018 Held at port of departure in Germany until Dec 2018 Arrived at dealer Jan 2019 It's collecting close 200 days of swirls and etching!! Haha The dealer reached out to me last night and upped my X5M value $2k. So $77k is exactly were all the other BMW/Audi dealers are at. Nationwide MMR list it at $81.5k. They say they aren't willing to lower the RS5 price any further, which I call BS. As I mentioned above, it's all a shell game...offer me more on my trade, and less on the new car or vise versa. How much more room is there on an RS5 that has been sitting for 200 days?

The Nardo RS5 Sportback I drove was a different story, I have to directly speak with a GSM friend, he said if I do go down that route to talk to him first. Based on that, I'd say no, Audi will hesitate until they cannot move the car. The issue with Audi is, these cars don't sell in volume, not even close. So, they just... oddly don't want to deal. My GSM friend is a Porsche dealer, I'd personally would aim for a slightly used GT3 .1 or .2. Also, Audi leases are terrible. You won't come close to BMW numbers even currently with BMW monthly being higher.

modern german sedans/coupes not currently depreciating:
- MB c63, clk63, and sl65 black series cars - Audi RS4 (2008), 2nd gen TTRS - E92 M3 manual ZCP if you want something that wont depreciate. You gotta buy something older that was produced in limited quantities.

You really think so? It looks so much better in other colors. But for some reason I keep coming back to it

Fish a little maybe and see what they do. I'd go for Nardo personally because I just like my flat grey colors, the silver would be my second choice. Never white. Of all the damn RS5 I see in my area (all 3 of them) ALL OF THEM WERE WHITE. Fuck White cars okay? There I said it.

I saw the one in green at the dealership. Forgot the name of the green but I think it was British Racing Green.
It did look good but... Nardo Grey is free :P

Silver one above sold yesterday, and not to me.
8 or so remaining nationwide with the same specs which would be a must for me, other than the color. However chances of getting 10% off or more is unlikely. Wifey still wants to check out the Tesla M3P

Hard no. The B7 RS4 is the only RS car that wasn't' hit as hard with the depreciation. However, it still depreciated as one would expect. The B8 RS5 has been hit hard by depreciation. The B9...the car is ridiculously over priced and will probably end up with the worst depreciation of them all. I used to be a big Audi guy. In 2007-2008 the RS4 was a direct comparison to the E92 M3. The M3 won the majority of reviews with the RS4 not too far behind it. The B9 RS5 really isn't in the same category anymore. Its watered down for comfort and luxury. The M3, C63S, and the Alfa Romeo Quadrifoglio are so much better. Yes I said Alfa. The car gets a lot of hate but it is such a beast on the road.

Audis depreciate just like the other big 2 German brands.
The RS5 Sportback is a very cool car, but I bought a Tesla Model 3 Performance after test driving them both back to back. The clean, simple interior design becomes very relaxing and appealing after you live with it for a few days. |
