Can anyone comment on how the MS Comp Springs perform for tracking the car? (i.e. AutoX and Track). Lowering springs stiffen the ride and give the car a nice drop which is pleasing to the eye, but I need something that is also going to perform well at speeds above 100. I see tons of feedback from others saying that with the front end drop, the car sways at higher (track day) speeds, which is very concerning. My F80 is a daily driver and I don't track that often (5-6x per Summer) but no sense in getting lower springs if it's going to compromise track day performance. Coilovers is overkill on a DD, so I'm not going that route either. Any feedback is greatly appreciated from guys who track on MS, Swift, etc.

So far all the sets we have done have held up great. We have done a couple hundred so far and no reported issues. Its a milder drop vs other springs so dont anticipate premature wear on the struts/shocks.

I had these springs installed on the second day after picking up my brand new ZCP M3 from the dealer.
Install went fine without a hitch. One thing to note is that the springs could be installed either side up. They aren't marked at all. Rides just like stock ZCP springs from what i could tell. After putting on 2-300 miles i do notice two things. low speed parking i can hear a very faint creaking sound coming from the front of the car when i'm turning the wheel left to right (parking). Do not notice this while driving. While driving i noticed that under certain types of sharp light bumps you can hear a little bit of clanking coming from the front suspension. bigger bumps, dips etc.. no unusual noises. It seems to be exaggerated if I hit those bumps while the steering wheel is turning (round about). It almost sounds like the spring is moving or there isnt enough preload tension? Has anyone else noticed this? Again my car is brand new and I was right there with the installer so I doubt is installer error. I thought i came across another member mentioning that he had to adjust his steering rack alignment bolt to compensate the lower ride height but can't seem to find it now. Alan

BMW doesn't publish spring rates that I'm aware of, one would need to test and compare with figures on Post 9.

For the rear spring both the top and bottom have 60mm ID, but BMW still labels the ends top/bottom (top is the side with the barcode sticker).

Those Macht Schnell springs are stiffer than my H&R's. And i can't see that they are progressive either, they are wound the same all the way in my eyes.
The H&R's i have are rated at 575 lb/ft at the rear and 253 lb/ft at the front. That is the H&R has kit. Last edited by M 4 FUN; 10-12-2019 at 10:30 AM.. |

I didn’t see any labels on the MS springs. Do they have top and bottom anyone? I just installed them but just threw them on there as I didn’t see any markings. Now I’m thinking if any of them are upside down!!

I emailed MS if the springs have an up and down and they sent me instructions that only talked about the spacer install. Not too impressed with MS customer service. For how much they charge for these springs you would think they would come with instructions and marks on the spring to show which side is up????

Looks perfect! Waiting for my (used) MC springs to be delivered. What is the difficulty level for installing these DIY? I had one shop quote me $800 for installation. Might try to do it myself.

Typical procedure for lowering springs. $800 is pretty high, we charge half that.

For the record, I installed Macht Schnell springs recently followed by an alignment hundreds of miles later. I started having vibration when braking from about 80 mph down to 60 mph and the dealership thought it was a warped carbon ceramic rotor. I thought it didn't make sense that suddenly I had a warped rotor that happened to coincide with when I lowered the car. A friend helped me out getting it up on a lift and determined that the bearing in the front right lower control arm was bad and there was some play in it that was causing the vibration at certain speeds. I don't know if lowering it just exacerbated an existing problem or if it might've caused the problem or maybe I just hit a big pothole after I lowered it. In case anyone has a similar problem with vibration on braking you might wanna check out the control arms.
