Maps selection (Bootmod3)?????help please

Hi guys
Can you please help me out with the Map selection for bootmod3
I’ve read a few forums topics about which octane fuel to used for in Australia
I’ve always used 98 octane before I’ve purchase bootmod3
Some people said I should used stage 1 91 octane because from their experience
It’s more smooth on the car
For me I wanna stage 1 93 octane
Anyone that has knowledge and experience on this topic please help me choose the right fuel for my car
It’s a daily driven car
Thanks

It appears that our 98ron fuel in Australia sits somewhere in between the 91 and 93, some users have no issues running the 93 stage map whilst others have slight hesitation using it. (In AU)

Going with the stage 1 91 map is probably the safer choice and it really depends on the quality of the fuel around your area.

Hi ausf22.
So if I used map 91 octane does that mean I have to used 91octane fuel or can I still used 98 fuel ?
I have no clue about these things

Def Use 98 fuel.

Flash the 91/93 map. I personally would use 91 for conservatism, as AUSf22 said, 93 flash map might be ok but you want to log to check. Given your not sure and may not know how to log, load the 91 flash map or get some help.

As above, definitely always use the highest grade fuel available to you (98).

If bootmod3 made a specific map tailored to Aussie fuel, they would probably call it the 92 map.

He said he was going to load the 91OCT/93OCT tune, hence the suggestion of 91.

The old Octane vs RON chestnut.

I don't why you would risk a one size fits all map VS a map tuned specifically for your car.

The price to get a custom tune isn't that much more especially if you consider the gains you would get and the possibility of avoiding damage to your engine.

Eventually down the road when I’m adding more performance mods I’m gonna go with a custom map

US 93 octane is the motor octane number (MON) plus the Research octane number (RON) divided by 2. BP Ultimate is MON 87 and RON 98 divided by 2 = 92.5. Our 98 is just under the US 93 octane.

A US 91 octane tune has the best detonation resistance on our 98 and the 93 tune is on the cusp. However, you could always add a litre of Zylene you can buy at Bunnings per tank to raise the octane of 98 for a US 93 tune.

Before I changed the plugs and ignition coils, I have had timing pulling issues in my logs on stage 2 93 octane with all the big name brands (BP, Shell, Caltex and 7/11) so I used stage 2 91 octane instead.

After I changed the oem plugs to NGK 97506s and ignition coils to OE Delphi coils, I still had timing pulling issues in my logs on the 93 octane map with BP ultimate as I always use BP ultimate due to the belief that it's the best fuel. So I was on the brink of getting a custom tune but I then sent some logs to PTF using Caltex 98 after I ran a Liquimoly Proline Fuel Cleaner and Halim has said the logs come back beautifully with no issues

Isn't xylene harmful to the plastic and rubber components of the fuel system?

Very informative.

Didn't realise our fuel was so bad here.

No, Zylene and Toluene are the primary additives used to raise the octane of 91 to 95 and 98. Straight may be harmful but not in small quantities used as an additive. Plastic's fine like Acetone, Zylene's sold in plastic bottles. 50/50 mixes of Avgas and Toluene used to soften old rubber fuel hose a bit in the carby days. Avgas would've been great in these cars with a RON of 130 and MON 100 divided by 2 = 115 octane in US terms except for the negative environmental effects of Tetraethyl Lead. Up until 1998, a few BP servos sold Avgas at the pump.

I always thought Caltex was the worst and have always used either shell or BP. Not from personal experience but hearsay.
