Loud CLUNK noises from the rear. Diff or Suspension?

I'm hearing a loud clunk noise occasionally on the rear suspension. It happens at a few times a day, mostly on hard acceleration, braking after going in reverse, or a few times when the rear goes over a bump. All these situations seem to be when the rear experiences load, but not every time, just once or twice a day. I even heard it once going over a small reflective pavement marker!

Most of the time it's two clunks, one from the rear left, and one from the rear right, but sometimes it's just one. I drive almost 80 miles a day, and it will happen maybe twice a day at the most.

To describe the sound: It sounds like there is something heavy in my trunk, like a large book that is hitting the wall as I accelerate. A very muted but loud "thunk". Again, most of the time it's two clunks, but sometimes one. Of course there is nothing in my trunk, and it's not ONLY during acceleration, I've heard it over a bump before. Weird thing is that it doesn't happen over the other many many bumps I go over in my commute.

Could my Macht Schnell springs and spacers have anything to do with it? Is this common?

I've also been told it might be a loose bolt on my rear diff.

Any help appreciated until I find time to get to a mechanic/dealer.

Note: I'm still under warranty except I have aftermarket springs and spacers.

Any chance it could be something floating around in the compartment under the trunk floor mat?

You're not the only one.

Mine is all stock and does the same

Probably once or twice every 3 days.

Have told the dealer but they couldn't replicate this. It's frustrating.
