I wouldn't be so quick to judge especially this early where so many things are still unknown. This is going to be exactly like the 1M. Everyone is going to bash it saying it's this and that, turbo this, turbo that and at the end, look at the reviews it's getting and how "M" it really is.

Turbo doesn't generate power from clear blue sky. The whole idea of the turbo is to have the power of a big engine (big engine=more air in the combustion chamber. Turbo pushes more air to a smaller combustion chamber) when you push the loud pedal. When you don't need power (ie, cruising) you have the efficiency of a small engine.

I love that people have to show there knowledge just to show their knowledge.

Point is the Turbo engines are more fuel efficient then their non turbo counterparts with the same power output. (Which is the same thing you just said and all I was posting about).

So yes if you would like me to rephrase I know at WOT I am not picking up the efficiency. But overall I can flog the turbo engine the same as I would the non-turbo and acheive a higher overall MPG.

Wow next time I wont make a comment without a scientific disertations and maybe a few references to the laws of physics in there as well.

I think the engine has already been confirmed in the X3M which comes out in a year or two (before the next gen M3) and I thought I read it will be a 3.2L instead of the current N55 3.0L.

The old 3.2L in the M3/M Roadster could get 330 HP without turbos, so it should easily hit 450HP with 2 large turbos (and a hairdryer).

If they bring back the Sedan I will be first in line to buy one, otherwise I have no clue what my next 4 door compact will be (RS4 or next gen C63 I guess).

Trying to get 30mpg in a car that is designed to be driven hard is kinda off... If you're going to baby it to get 30mpg, why are you buying an M3?

BTW, even if you are not WOT, still the same thing. if you need 150hp to accelerate, you will burn same amount of fuel whether NA or turbo or sc...

Wow why are you taking things so seriously. I put 30mpg in jest, its a magical number.

So you are telling me if you could push a car as hard as you want both being equal in performance, one gets 10mpg and one gets 30mpg you would say hmmm doesnt matter to me which one I have.

The performance is the end all of what you want out of an M3, but it is also nice to have fuel economy as well.

Remember the M3 is not a full on sports car, its also a DD for many people as well as it seats 4 with a large trunk.

I like that they're going back to an I6. Tri-turbo though, sounds ridiculously complex and like there will be minimal chance of it having the same longevity and low problem record of the S54, or the S65 for that matter. Murphy's law - and add more complex parts, Murphy will prevail....I'll hold my breath to see what is actually spec'd for the car and how it does for the first few years.

Again, if you push hard, both cars will get awful mpg... You will only have the benefit on freeway driving, and depending on you driving habits and commute, the new M3 may not be all that economical. It may not be justified to have 2more mpg and loose a high revving V8 masterpiece.. That's my whole point.

Agreed on M3 is not a sports car.
